Title: Starting over after time off from injury
Post by: TREP on December 16, 2022, 03:29:55 PM
Been off for a year due to injury and surgery. It's all like something new because I can no longer throw like I used to. Just now moving up from throwing #12 to #14. It's going to be a long road but it will be good to be back. No matter what kind of average you have it is better to bowl even if you can't bowl as good as you did before. After total shoulder replacement and major back.surgery, if I can do it anyone can. Do not ever give up. First month could not break 500 throwing a #12 ball. After just over a month I moved up to #14  and my last set was 578. Slowly but surely getting there. Due to sub twice a week for the next 4-5 weeks and hopefully I can build up to at least be able to go again. Never give up, never give in. Hope to someday meet some of you on the lanes. Good luck and good bowling.

Keep it up.  It's a martathon, not a sprint and you'll get back to where you want to be.

I agree 100% with the marathon vs sprint idea.

I've done both shoulders, and now scheduled for a total knee replacement this Monday the 19th.  Since last summer I've had to use the one-step approach, and my average is down, and my ego has taken a hit, but at least I've been able to bowl.  The golf game was difficult too.

By late spring 2023 I should be back to 5 step approach, and a "normal" golf swing and walking the course pain free.  Whatever I have to do to get there will be worth it.

I'm currently almost 3 months in on a knee replacement and it's been fun! Looking forward to getting back out on the lanes again someday. I haven't bowled league for a few years now and really miss it.

Friend of mine had a knee replacement in October.  Planned to return to bowling this month.  Now they aren't sure if they will be back at all the remainder of the season.  They expected 6-8 week recovery, but it was way more painful than they claim the doctor told them.  Really surprised them and threw off their whole plan not only for bowling but the end of year holiday travels and whatnot...

I had total shoulder replacement and spinal fusion. The entire lower half of my back is now screws and rods and wedges. Just can't keep me down.
