Good Spare ball
« on: November 29, 2014, 02:48:18 AM »
I was using an old Deuce II as my spare ball -- just a nice subtle move at the end to make my spares-- she is dead now-- Tried to flawed out my IQ fusion but it just rips at the back end sometimes and I am missing easy spares.

Any suggestions on a non-plastic spare ball-- little movement to make double wood and the occasional spatular split  -- but of course more than anything my ten pin.

Hammer Taboo spare works for me. Has the Taboo core and will give you movement when the lanes break down. Changed the ball surface with 3000 Abralon and right up 5 board the ball would walk to the pocket on THS. Shined back up with Ebonite factory finish to have a more universal ball, and have not changed the surface since. Looks good going down the land if you are looking for that. The Taboo spare is plastic but I don't miss that many 10 pins. just saying.
Last time I looked there were still several on EBay, reasonable.

I grew up in a dry house and my eyes also like seeing my ball straighten out a bit.
I use a vizaball for spares with some surface.  For a reason totally unknown to me, the Vizaballs hook more than most standard spare balls.  Otherwise consider an entirely urethane ball.

Any plastic ball and surface. The Storm Polar ice series is a polished urethane with pancake weight block.

EL3MCNEIL...

I just looked on EBay and you are right, did not see the taboo Spare at this time. In fact there are not a lot of True Bloods on there either. I received mine when Hammer had the deal if you purchased the Pearl Taboo you received the Taboo Spare. I waited quite a while before drilling it up. Hang in there one may come up on EBay or closeout. I will be on the lookout.

Definitely Taboo Spare (if you can find one), True Blood, or Track Spare+

+1 to the True Blood as well. I have a True Blood and I love it, I just prefer the Taboo Spare. EBI has a few good plastic balls with cores. There are also some good urethane balls and straight plastic balls out there. It's really just personal preference to what you want to use as a spare ball.

If you use 15 lbs. I have a single drill, if you're interested. It's like new. I used it very few games. Never got a liking for it. (Message sent)

Thanks for the reply. I would jump on it but I throw 14lbs.
Thank you though for the consideration and response.

You're welcome; good luck with your search.
(FYI: BolwerX.com has a new True Blood {replacement for the Taboo Spare} that I've seen at $82.95 delivered. CheapBowlingBalls.com has it for $67.50 PLUS shipping. Both are good internet dealers, in my experience.)
