Well great...
« on: January 06, 2017, 12:06:32 AM »
The bowling market being the beast that it is, has now put me in a spot I like and don't like. Too many options...

I thought I was sold on the Jackal Ghost, but I like the Mako and Gauntlet. Which oiler to choose. Great.

What do you bowl on in which you need that much ball?

::) Give me a break, outside of the Bradley Open what "4-5" tournaments are you entering that needs this much ball? The trend for years at tournaments is hook, hook, and more hook. Dont even mention USBC's because any "oiler" AT BEST will be used in practice and maybe 3-5 frames of team in game 1 and thats it.

We have local tournaments that actually throw out PBA Bear and Badger, 47ft+ Kegel Sport Shots, and "experimental" patterns that can get quite heavy. We have some tournaments that don't cater to the "my ball didn't move at all" people.

As always, my choice would be whatever you can get at the best price. They're all good. If those are the three options you've narrowed it down to though I might lean towards the Gauntlet.

Thanks Coor. Yes I was good with the Jackal Ghost but these additional two did peak some interest. I noticed the gauntlet is a Hybrid. Makes me wonder which two coverstocks they pulled from to make it's cover.

It's Semtex Hybrid CFI, so expect a somewhat weaker but more angular Scandal reaction combined with the difference between an asymmetrical core and symmetrical core. Not really sure that it's quite a combination of Semtex CFI and Semtex Pearl CFI, I would try and take it on it's own merits since this particular coverstock hasn't been used yet. Regardless it should be a really nice ball and given the Scandal's success I doubt there's a large chance of the Gauntlet failing.

And I was thinking of sticking with Motiv now.
But that Hammer Gauntlet is tempting.
But I won't be buying any new balls until the next season starts. And I don't really need heavy oil balls, but I will probably buy one medium oil or lower ball and a heavy oil ball after the summer break.
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:
Brunswick T-zone (13)

Might stick with Motiv from now on.
