Tape
« on: March 19, 2008, 08:09:48 AM »
So how many pieces of tape do you use in your thumb, on average?

I use 6-8, so I think I may have to have my thumb redrilled smaller. Will this affect the span at all?

around 6. I drill the thumb large purposely because I like the feel with tape.

Depends on the what I am looking for that night. Some nights I like a tighter thumbhole some nights like a looser thumb hole. So it all depends.

Do you prefer the tape in front of the thumb or nail side of the thumb?

Front side of the thumb which does affect the span slightly.

I open up my thumb hole enough to fit around 3 pieces of tape in the front.  That way if my thumb swells I can remove a piece or two.  It's better to have a thumb a little too big than too small.  It's alot easier to remove a piece of tape on the fly.

About four white pieces and no black pieces.  Keep in mind that the white tape is textured so it is thicker than the black tape.  Six black pieces of tape may be the same as two or three white pieces.

That's a piece in the front and three in the back for a "normal" or just-drilled fit.  I want to have three in the back so I have them to take away if it's feeling tight.  If I get down to one in the front and one in the back then I know I need to open up the thumbhole.

I have anywhere from 2 to 6 pieces of tape, depending on my thumb or the ball.

Three pieces.  Two white in the front and one black in the rear.  If the weather gets cold, I might add one piece in the front.

6 to 8 black tapes at the back.

It's easier to have a looser hole and fix it with black tape than a tighter hole with no room for adjustment when your thumb is swelling.

I have a couple pieces of black tape in my thumbhole, they're cut in half lengthwise so I can fine-tune the placement.  Plus I also wear a piece of Vise Hada patch on my thumb when I bowl, which takes the place of some tape in the thumbhole itself.

2-4 pieces of white tape in total; 1-2 under the thumb, staged (to build a kind of ramp), and 1-2 more in a 4 o'clock position to lower the hole diameter without rubbing contact while releasing the ball.

Since the switch to VII from Vice, I don't use the stuff no more.

But at one time, 1 piece of MC in the back, 1-3 white in the front.
