Title: The Best Ball in History
Post by: MelvinBrunsTrack on April 04, 2008, 12:33:54 AM
The other day my driller and I was talking about different bowling balls. And it was brought up the columbia beast. I have to agree this ball was very popular. Many  bowlers had this ball back then. I have to say this is the best ball Columbia came out in history of the company. Let me know what you think. And what ball do you think is the best ever produce by any company ?

I loved the Beast had 4 solids and 2 pearls. The most versatile balls I have ever thrown.

No love for the Power Torq or the Messenger?

Wow.

Two of my all time faves.

on edit, thought this was a Columbia300 discussion.

There have been many transitions throughout bowling history.  The evolution of coverstocks being the most important.  I know, I know.  Without the proper condition, even the most advanced coverstock will not perform.  Lest we not forget that short oil lane conditions were mandated because of the aggressive coverstocks that companies were wrapping on balls.

For that reason, the Yellow Dot, Angle/Hammer, and Excalibur need to be among a "best" list because the path they created for the game's future.  Good or bad.

If you want each company I would say:
Columbia: beast
Ebonite: I have to go with the Savage
Brunswick: the original Inferno
Hammer: FA 3D high rev off set
Roto Grip: Cell

The overall best ball ever made is the 3D High Rev

"Back in the day", the Manhattan Rubber was probably used by a larger percentage of big-name bowlers and used in a larger percentage of scoring records than (I'd guess) any other ball in history.  Granted, there weren't many choices back then, but there you have it.

Teal Rhino Pro. Anyone bowling regularly in 93-95 will remember walking to the ball return and sorting through 8 or more Teals to find theirs. Xcalibur greatest/worst of all time. Started the whole reactive era good/bad depending on your view.

Brunswick LT-48 was a big seller, but I wish I had a dollar for every Columbia yellow dot that was sold.

Cuda/Pearl good. Had one drilled at the Quaker State one year and cashed. Only problem I had with it was I'm a Longhorn and it was maroon.

Forgot about that ball. I love that one. If anyone has one 16 Lb I want to buy, I have to give back my dad's speed zone. Best Brunswick ball. Now I have to say the Cell is the best ball though with a close second to the FAball high rev offset.
