Ken, I may be wrong on this, but I don't think it maters as long as it is not used outside of the Paddock area.  I've used Black Magic (made by Ultimate, not PBA registered) polish between squads in the paddock with no problems.  The issue is really related to products used during competition.  Any bowling product used and carried onto the lanes must be from a manufacturer that has paid the registration fee, or it can't be used.  This means balls, bags, gloves, wrist supports, etc.  I used to have an Ultimate 2-ball tote, that stayed in the paddock, since Ulimate was/is not PBA registered.  Since you can't use polishes, etc during competition, I don't that that using it would be an issue.  Besides, if you put it on at home before even coming to the tournament, who would even know that it was applied to the ball.

kendog - As Berreez has eluded to it is accepted for use before or after sanctioned use by the ABC/WIBC.

Every tournament has it's own rules so it is best to check with the tournament directors.

I know of a few regional players and they have not had any problems with it.

In a message to the legal department at PBA, this is what I wrote.

quote:
I have a question regarding use of substances when bowling in a PBA sponsored event.

There is a product on the market "Doc's Magic Bowling Ball Elixir" that is ABC/WIBC accepted for use before or after sanctioned events.  I would like to know is it also okay to use it in a PBA event.  If it is or is not is there a rule that states this?

This was their reply.

You can use a non-product registered bowling ball polish as long as it doesn't leave the locker room.  Thanks, Sam

I looked into the PBA rule book and found this.

27.    Can I use a ball polish that is not product registered?
You may use non-registered ball polish as long as it is kept in the locker room.

So as long as you the ball is coated with the Elixir it can be used as long as it does not leave the locker room.

Hope this helps.

I'm sure you mean the bottle of Elixer and not the ball
