Title: The Gathering -- 2K10
Post by: Graaille on March 01, 2010, 03:20:50 PM
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Children of all ages.  It''s getting to be that time again.  Last I heard, the official date is the last full weekend in July, July 24th and 25th, 2010 at Creekside Lanes.  I thought I''d start a thread to keep people informed so that vacation time can be planned out, schedules adjusted, excuses can be perfected, etc....  I''ll add more to the initial post when I receive more information.  The 2nd annual ThongPrincess Memorial Bragging Rights Tournament is still on for Saturday.  The last 2 years I believe women took the top 3 places -- guys, it''s time to show up and shoe up.  And due to the efforts of a certain SrKegler:  SPONSORED BY GLOBAL 900, STORM, AND LANE 1.  Woohoo!

RSVP to this thread.  Many thanks and hope to see 24 full lanes for the Tournament.

(Edit)
For those who don''t know, and so there will be full disclosure:
Creekside Lanes
1450 Trademart Bv
Winston Salem, NC 27127-5646
(336) 771-9800

More swag coming in - Storm is now sending stuff, and wouldn''t suprise me if there was some Roto items mixed in.  SrKegler is still talking to Ebonite - so we may have toys from almost all the major players. (minus Brunswick)

I would really like to come to one of these things, but its just over 1000 miles from here to there, and I just can't see taking an entire week vacation and driving that far just to bowl.

I don't play golf, so what else is there to do around there?

Ditto for me plus I don't play golf either....I would love to be able to attend this event and I envy the people close enough that are able to attend it. I would also love to be able to meet Ron Clifton and be able to take some lesons from him, but living so far away, it can only be a dream for me.

I would love to attend but I'm going to Indianapolis in July with my son for the Junior Gold Tournament.

Maybe next year!

How many people (average) attend this event?

Last two years it was around 30 counting spouses.  (And that''s all I can vouch for since I was there.)

As far as other things to do around here other than bowl and golf, hmmm..... there are the usual get-togethers that happen every evening, you''re only 3 hours away from the Blue Ridge Mountains, the outlet centers in Burlington, Lexington is only 15-20 minutes away if you''re into Southern Barbeque, Historic Old Salem for the historians, The Winston Cup museum for Nascar fans, Biltmore House is 90-120 minutes away depending on traffic.  Somehow I get the feeling that anyone who comes will be able to find things to do.  Since I live 3 minutes away from Creekside (Winston Salem, NC), if someone has a particular interest - I can do a few searches to try to find things of interest.

Don't worry, ball selection won't matter for you. You can't score on anything other than a house shot anyway. I love how you supposedly bowled the US Open and then hid your real name when called out.

The TPMBRT (abbreviated for space) is a 3 game sweeper on 3 different regional and/or PBA patterns.  Creekside has Brunswick Pro Anvilane, and as far as what to bring - bring what you think you'll need.  Normal house shot can run a little lighter than medium - I personally do well w/a LM Terminator Rebellion and Hornet, RG Cell Pearl and Mars.  Your milage may vary.

If you are as good as you say you are should it matter what bowling balls to bring? IMO You should worry about how you are going to bowl outside of your bowling alley house rag.

Too far away?  We drive 12 hours each way to attend and wouldn't miss it.  See, Jason, for the most part way too many people here just can't seem to get along.  Maybe it's time this Gathering moved on from here. We live in hope, but there's a reason most of the best have left.

You could drive 11 hours several years like me, then end up moving here.

I'd also like to send best wishes to Andy.  Not a frequent poster, but he's always helping out one way or another at Creekside and is Ron's unofficial crash test dummy.  Andy's having back surgery in a few days to clean up some bone pieces that caused some complications from his broken foot.  Apparently they are causing swelling and pinching the sciatic nerve which caused him to lose feeling in his foot. Speedy recovery Andy!

Money is tight for many these days, but it's a very worthwhile trip.  If you can drive, you're only out gas, and there are very reasonable hotels very nearby.  Bowling is very cheap for the attendees, and the food at Creekside is much better than average.  Free coaching from Ron is worth 10x what you'll spend on bowling balls alone this year.  If there's any way you can make it, we'd love to meet you.

Hmmm, not many people replying yet this year.  Anyway, the wife and I will be there unless something major comes up,  we drive from the middle of Florida.  I've also talked to some friends of ours who are from Connecticut to come on down so don't be shy, it's a great 3 days!

JAnderson is in the process of creating a website w/even more info, pictures, etc on it, and hopes to have it up and running in April.  When it's up - I'll post the link in the initial post (unless he beats me to it.)  It's worth it alone to have one on one time w/Ron (Magic Carpet), but the bonus is the fun we have just talking, bragging, and lying to each other for 3 days.
Title: Re: The Gathering -- 2K10
Post by: Strider on March 31, 2010, 08:50:28 PM
On a positive note, Andy is doing well after the surgery.  Up and walking around, although he'll be on light duty (no bowling) for quite some time.

I also now have a video camera, so I'll take at least one shot of every attendee throwing a ball (unless instructed otherwise ).

Like I said earlier, one good hour with Ron will pay off 10 times over any equipment you'll every buy.  The center is nice, rates are very reasonable, the staff is fun, and the food is good.  Come on out and put some faces to the names.

guys I got to tell you whether we get along or not on these boards, once you meet in person on the lanes it's an entirely different story. I have a reputation as being slightly abrasive ( don't know why ), but when I arrived last year it was so awesome meeting and hanging out and bowling with everyone.

If you hear nothing else I say here this. It is a fun time to be had by all, and the travel and journey is worth it. If you enjoy bowling this is an event you don't want to miss. Ron is an EXCELLENT coach, the staff is fun and accommodating, there is as much to do here as there is in any other major city ( for the nay sayers ) . I am taking time off work this year so that I can be present for all 4 days, because it's worth it to me and Amanda.

We made friends while we were there, and we keep in touch, and we have been looking forward to this ever since it ended last year.

just come it's fun, and you won't regret it

p.s. Amanda ( a.k.a. hooter girl ) says hello to everyone

I have to chime in and say what a pleasure it was meeting you and Amanda, and yes, it''s well worth the trip.  We''ve never had a bad experience at the Gathering the real jerks don''t seem to show up, which is wonderful.  I believe this one will be our fourth time attending and we plan our whole year around it. We''ve got our reservations made and we''ll see you there.

My wife Karen and I had been planning on trying to make it this year until an infected disc in my lower back has sidelined me and used up the funds that we had set aside for the trip.  Hopefully next year we will be able to make the trip and have the opportunity to meet and bowl with the group.

Good luck, safe traveling and good bowling!

We've had it for the last few years with the Official BR/TP t-shirt being the sole prize for the winner of the tournament - and people kept coming back (which either says something for the people who host the event, or something about the crazies who come to the event.)  While the swag is nice, and the potential of a new ball is awesome - I'm still showing up for the opportunity to have my head handed to me by JAnderson and Kev on the lanes.

Someone needs to get a hold of Pchee and talk him into coming.  He can come and give a spare making exhibition (think of "Major League's" Willie Mayes Hayes hitting exhibition)!  If I can drive 12 hours twice and move here, surely some of you can scape up the cash to come just once (well, once a year anyway).  Maybe we can have a contest to see if anyone wants to challenge Joe Falco to a total games thrown contest (not me!).  Bowlers are expected to travel to the west coast just about every year for nationals, so here your chance for the east coasters for a shorter trip that will be much more rewarding.  Good friends and better coaching for next to nothing.  What else could you ask for?

Of course I'll be there.

Other than bowling, is there any interest in any side activities?  In years past, we've had golf outings (Toma and Nollster were avid golfers) and poker parties at my house.

chatnboy,
We don't have a hard set agenda, we things when the most people can participate. Generally, of Friday we meet greet bowl have fun bowl have fun and then all go out to eat.
Saturday morning it's breakfast at Creekside, bowl and have fun, then the braggin rights tournament. Then bowl have fun and then all go out to eat.
Sometimes on Saturday night there is poker and sometimes not.

Sunday it's morning brunch at Creekside and bowl and have fun. On Sunday I offer a few pointers to bowlers that wish to have them. We bowl on different oil patterns so it's not just a weekend of house shots. We are REAL bowlers ya know.

Let me know if you need more info.

Bowl great!

Hey guys as of right now my girlfriend Christy and myself are planning on at least doing the Bragging Rights tournament. More than likely we will do Scotch Dbls on Friday as well.

Geoff, we would possibly be interested in some Hold Em!

Ive been trying to get to the Gathering for about 2 years now, lol. We look forward to meeting everybody!

I will be there for everything except the scotch doubles tournament.  I've no Scotch, no partner, and not an excessive amount of money right now - so I'd rather spend it on Sat/Sunday lane fees instead of dropping an entry fee.

We're really looking forward to seeing everybody again, and meeting new friends.  One week from today we hit the road to get there.  Sr, since Coll passed there hasn't been a whole lot going on on the Thurs., but we live in hope. See you there!  And Jason: Fri. blind draw doubles is listed to go at 2, I've been told.  Will you be there?

Hey all, Jay & I will be there with bells on!!!

Still trying to help out some new Gathering folks with a tentative time frame.  Is the Scotch doubles still happening at 7p on Friday? If not, what time?  We are bringing 5 ladies with us who love to bowl, so if there are guys out there that need partner for the tournament, just come find me, KAT, the quiet one!

What time & where is dinner on Friday, Ron?  If you could get an address w/zip, that would be great for everyone with GPS!

Saturday: What time is our meeting & what time is the 2nd annual Thong Princess Braggin' Rights tournament starting?  Any time frame would help to give them some idea!  I've basically told everyone I know that is coming they should plan to be at the lanes most of the day Friday, Saturday & Sunday!  Eat, sleep & breathe bowling!!

Ron, any luck on the special H-Girls t-shirts?  I have the idea we came up with last year & will send it to you!  Might get a few takers to have those shirts made up, too!!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

10poundbear,
You really bring 5 ladies with you? Have you become the Madam of Hotlanta?
That is fantastic, we can never have enough womens!!!.

Yes Scotch doubles is at 7pm Friday night.

I will answer more stuff tomorrow.

Can't wait to get you a BEAR HUG.
By the way did you have any pics of the Drama Queen? I don't think there were any on the disc you sent last year.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. We'll have the new site up this weekend. I'll post here when it's ready for public consumption. The laptop will be with me at the Gathering so that we (as a group) can make changes to the site on the fly as we come up with various ideas.

We'll be in late, late Thursday night and will be around until later on Sunday.
