How long does it take you to recognize .....
« on: August 17, 2005, 03:49:22 AM »
the oil pattern you're bowling on?  If you haven't previous knowledge of the pattern, do you simply forget what you know about attacking different patterns (i.e. Sport, A, B etc.) by playing the lanes according to your style or adjust according to what you know about the different patterns?  (did I ask this right? .. )

I´ve started to throw a loose ball down the lane, and then see where it hits the breakpoint. But usually i stand on my usual spot and throw the ball down the lane, then i look if its over/under and adjust to that.
On conditions when i can´t get to the pocket i change mark and other stuff.

Honestly, I never even pay attention to what kind of pattern it is.  I just figure out where I can play and with what, where the others are playing and where I'll likely have to move (or switch balls).  I never really put 2 and 2 together and say "Hey, this is --- pattern".

Whattup V...good question. This is something I'm still working on, but what I like to do in Shadow ball is try different types of lines to the pocket. This way I will know if the ball hangs (Out of Bounds), if the ball holds (Puddle of oil on a certain part of the lane) or if the ball darts (sniffs dry).

When I'm bowling tournaments and moving pairs, I watch what lines players of the similar line are playing and adjust of that. Or you can play the same line you were on the last pair and adjust of that. Sometimes it takes me a while to read the pattern, but I'm working on it. Hope this helps man!

Don't ask me.  This is absolutely the weakest part of my "game".

Sometimes I am quick to recognize patterns, other times I figure it out in the middle of the third game... By that time I'm WAY too late. If I catch it in practice - I'm good to go. As with most things with me it's a crap shoot.

If I get a look at the pattern before hand....will get an idea...

Look at oil per board and length...

If long pattern....start inside...
If shorter pattern...start out on the twig..

If pattern is 25-35 units per board.....pearl...
35-50.....dull....
50+......dull particle...

Gives me a good idea where to start from....

If no pattern to check out..

1st ball.....benchmark ball thrown normally but at the 10 pin.....
2nd ball.....benchmark ball thrown normally but at the 7 pin..

This will give me a quick idea of what I am facing..how long is the pattern...how much friciton off the oil?? etc.....
