To release or not to release new equipment
« on: June 27, 2017, 10:21:18 AM »
Lots of discussion in a previous post about 20 new balls being released, or more likely, which is par for the course this time of year every year.

You have the usual excitement by some along with the usual complaints by others of too many bowling balls etc.

The Ebonite brands only released one mid performance ball per brand along with the color changes to some entry level balls or new entry level balls, and then colors added in the plastic lines. No new releases in the high performance or the upper high performance price points. (assuming the EBI Matrix is a mid performance ball)

Interestingly enough there hasn't been much discussion on the lack of new releases from them or the happiness of it from say pro shops or other consumers.

Curious how many would consider buying one of the current EBI brands balls now for the up coming fall season since you have gone this long not to buy it already?

How many may considered other brands with new releases because of this?

It doesn't matter what the companies do because bowlers will complain:

If there are too many releases they complain.
If there are fewer releases they complain.
If the shot is hard they complain.
If the shot is easy they complain.
If they hit between the 1 & 3 pins and don't carry they complain.
If they hit between the 1 & 2 pins and don't carry they complain.
If the league is sanctioned they complain.
If the league doesn't sanction they complain.
If they shoot 801 with 3 open frames they complain (they got robbed).

We should start another thread about the things bowlers complain about.  Coming right up!

Its an interesting strategy for ebonite to wait to release the balls. I don't think it means there will be less balls released, just a strategic move to push back the announcements/release dates. I don't think its risky towards their customer base cause people will buy balls regardless, but I do think it's risky towards pro shops as they had very little new product to display at bowl expo where pro shops are going to stock up on fall specials to get the season started. And some pro shops will have gone to bowl expo and not be able to attend trade shows where those new specials might be offered. So I think there's some potential to upset some PSOs. Overall I don't think it matters for sales, but I do think it made them look really silly at bowl expo showing off 4-5 month old balls. Watching the FB live videos was even funnier as most of the pro staffers even referenced the age of some of the balls they were displaying.
