Vise Rapid Cure
« on: October 07, 2014, 10:59:10 PM »
I recently purchased some Vise rapid Cure.  I tried it out last night and I plugged three holes.  Almost all of them appear to have a very rough finish.  The liquid seemed to kind of foam up or bubble up.  One actually seemed to expand and almost rose above the dam.  The rough plug won't even seem to smooth out on my resurfacer.  Any suggestions or guesses what I did wrong?

Thanks,

Drew

I got a small sample of that from Vise two weeks ago. I had the same results. I didn't like the way it turned out at all. I had to redrill the plugs out and use my regular plug material

It sounds like you stirred a little too long and too fast, creating too much heat and getting too much air in the mix.

I have tried stirring slow and still get lousy results. About the best reaction I get is to pour outdoors on a hot day, above 80° and then gently tap the ball with a dead blow hammer to help release the bubbles. It must be the nature of the rapid cure which while convenient traps air bubbles.

I called vise today.  I probably can't do the long conversation justice, but he said that the number one cause of bubbles is moisture.  That even a drop of water will cause it to bubble.

Also the plug cures rapidly (obviously), and you need to pour once you feel it is warm.  If it is too thick when you pour, air bubbles from the pour can get trapped and won't rise to the top because the plug is too thick.  He told me to pour down the stirring stick to minimize bubbles during the pour.

Finally, he said that the cups they give you can be reused.  That after the plug cures, you can pull it right out of the cup.  If that is true, that is nice.

I had similar results with it. VISE also has a NEW plug CS Hybrid and it is AWESOME!!!
Quick plug but easy to color and easy to work with! You do have to work quickly with it but mix color into the hardener and then mix in the resin part ,stir for about 25-30 sec. and pour! Been able to get top quality colors!
