Things you have seen a Pro leave during his game,
« on: October 30, 2003, 11:25:59 AM »
Ok, i was at Spectrum lanes today watching the first day of qualifying and seem some wierd leaves, which is kinda a understatement though.

But the one that stuck in my mind was the 1-2-5-8 left by Terry Metzner who is from Mich.  I dont know how he left it but it did happen cuz i was watching the pair of lanes he was on at the time.

I did see alot of 3-6-9-10 4-7 splits, a bunch of pocket 4-9's and everything else u can imagine too.

And why is it when you read about the pattern and it tells you that u need to play in a certain area of the lane, u always see guys doing the total opposite?

I seen alot of this too, guys trying to play inside 3rd arrow and leaving splits left n right.

With the type of patterns they are dealing with on tour, you will see some pretty odd leaves.  A common one is the "PBA Split" which is the 3-6-7-9 for righties and the 2-4-8-10 for lefties.  You'll also see the same combo without the 6 or 4.  Another interesting leave is the washout which drives cleanly between the 1-4 (left) or 1-6 and usually leaves half the rack for a spare conversion.

I once left a 3-4-6-7-9-10 split while bowling with Walter Ray in a pro-am.  He was non-committal when I left it, but he perked up when I converted it.  I think even Tommy Jones on the next pair offered a high-five for pulling that conversion off.
