When the house oils.....
« on: July 24, 2015, 09:36:13 AM »
Now that I have decided to shoot 2 leagues in the house that is closer to me, I discover they only oil 1st thing in the morning. I did not know this.

I had only bowled winter league at the other house (same corp. owners, not AMF or Bowlmor). There they have a new machine (battery run) and oiling the lanes goes much quicker, so they do oil before the night leagues there.

It was explained to me that they have an older machine with a cord at this place and takes a long time to oil the 32 lanes. They do try to keep the open bowling on one end of the house during the day, to keep the lanes at the other end "fresher". (This was not the case in the summer, hence the carrydown I never saw before, and a hit of about 8 pins negative to my avg. this summer there).

I guess lots of open bowling/parties with kids during the week, so I DID notice the carrydown and struggled with it.

So I hope the Sport shot league works out ok in the end at this place, but will see how it goes the 1st few weeks.

Be grateful that they are still oiling once a day in the summer...MANY houses do not simply because they don't have enough league activity to warrant it and the fun-bowlers (ie. kids and teens) generally aren't going to whine about conditions.  Every pass not made with a lane machine is money the owners do not have to take out of their dwindling income...
