Thumb
« on: April 17, 2008, 03:37:41 AM »
I have been having issues with the pad of my thumb turning brown(in a line across the pad). I know this is caused by squeezing but i have never had this problem before. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on ways to alleviate this problem, pitch suggestions?

It's a burn mark, I get it on the pad of my thumb and on my fingertips too. I say if it's not causing you any pain, then why worry?

Usually it is caused by having too little front bevel.

See Mo Pinel bevel tips in Drilling.

No Pain??

Surprising...

I have the same brown mark across my thumb, 1/2" down from the tip.
Mine is caused from bending the thumb upon release, and hitting the front of the thumb hole.
I don't feelit, but have seen it in slo-mo video, at the release point.
No big deal, no pain...just discoloration.

Do you basically have this kind of mark on your thumb? Can someone please tell me if I'm squeezing the ball too much? My pro shop guy always gives me a lecture on how not to squeeze the ball during release.

Since I changed pitches, from a 1/2" reverse to 3/16" reverse, the mark on my thumb is only about 1/4" wide. I also opened the back of the thumb up more...My thumb is 2-7/8" long. I always had trouble clearing the back of the hole.

Upon release my thumb has toretract stright up towards my wrist to clear the hole....which has become 2nd nature after 50 years of bowling.

My thumb is also extremely tacky...I carry a squeeze bottle of talcumpowder, which I squirt into the thumb hole every 6 balls or so...NO ball fitter has yet solved my thumb problem...I've pretty much excepted it.
