Thumb hole is a little big
« on: October 30, 2018, 01:31:14 PM »
I had my ball drilled and the only problem I have is that the thumb hole is a touch to big, so my finger keeps getting hit and has become a bit tender, what are my options to fix this.

I'm guessing that your ball falls off the thumb early and your fingers get "jammed" because the ball hits the lane with fingers still in??

In any event, most of us use thumb tape that has some texture and takes up some of that extra space in the thumb hole.  The pro shop that sold you the ball can get some for you and show you how it's applied inside the thumb hole.  Thumbs shrink and swell all the time so thumb tape can be a bowler's best friend.

If that doesn't fix the problem you might have a timing issue, causing the ball to fall off the hand earlier than desired.  Good luck to you.

Mike

OPTIONS:

 1. Get some tape and put in hole to tighten up the hole size.
 2. Get some tape and apply to thumb to increase thumb size and friction.
 3. Have them slug and redrill the hole to a smaller size.
 4. Have them plug and redrill the hole to a smaller size.

Of the options above, I prefer #’s 1 and 2.

I actually like having the thumbhole a bit larger than my thumb and adjusting with tape, as it allows me to continue to use my ball by removing the extra tape when my thumb swells.

I really like using fitting tape on the back of my thumb. saves the skin, makes fitting the thumb hole better and you can get different textures for a faster or slower thumb release. this combined with textured tape up front you can achieve a great fit and feel all the time. BUT you need a slightly larger tumb hole to make room for adjusting with the tape.
The harder I try the harder they fall
