Noticed that a Relatively new Thumb Slug/insert in my ball has sunk a bit into the ball. Like a 16th of an inch or so. Should I be concerned that it’s on the verge of falling out? It was fine for about 2 weeks and about 15-20 games (at least).
Would rather not mess with it, but don’t want the insert to come out in the middle of a game.

It will likely never come out. It may sink more, sounds like it wasn’t bottomed out properly.

Thank you. Probably I should visit the driller, but sounds like there’s no urgency in the meantime (except I’d like to get that over with).

The only real problem is the coverstock might chip now that the slug is sliding in. It needs to be drilled out and partially filled with plug, and then re-slugged.

Sounds like it wasn't glued in properly. Needs to be remedied ASAP or chipping as said will occur.

Luke Rosdahl addressed this briefly in his live video of drilling his Crux Prime. Forget what he said but it wasn’t mentioned haha.

Get it fixed. The PSO can pull it back up to the top then pour enough plug in the bottom of the hole to secure it. I always drill the pilot hole to a depth so that about 1/8" of the slug is above the top of the hole when it's bottomed out. -- JohnP

Thank you. I'm a little disappointed that the driller made this error. I thought I had found another driller. He was very personable and he listened and did exactly what I wanted, and my main guy was out of town. But the perfect drilled insert that has now slipped down is not so perfect then.
Or is this something that can happen once in awhile even if the PSO does everything right? ----Although I have had 30-40+ balls drilled over the years and it never happened to me before this.... :(

If the driller pays any attention at all they know before the balls is done that they made an error and didn't bottom out the slug. Not bottoming out the slug is a mistake we've all made. Drill the hole a little deep or the glue sets up before you get the slug all the way in. It happens. They either don't pay enough attention to detail to notice or they decided to roll the dice that it wouldn't sink so they didn't fix it before the ball left the shop.

Well... maybe I’ll bring it back to him and give him a chance to make it right. At least it’s very easy to see and doesn’t require much of an explanation.
