Online fit
« on: April 20, 2007, 09:26:58 AM »
Is there some way that i can figure out what i need for the top weight and pin position so i can order online insted of having the pro shop reccomend it for me bc their price is to expensive.

so basically is there a way that i can figure out what my hand fit would be without going to the pro shop so i can order it online

Also its my first "real" ball so i cannot ship it there hence its not allready fit to my hand.

Good luck with that.

You could always make a photocopy of your hand, fax it to them, and they'll take care of the rest. lol Or you could go to a reputable shop, tell them you want to be setup with your first reactive ball, and you'll get a Groove type entry level ball for about $100-125 drilled out the door.

Proper fit is more important than saving a buck or two.

No thats a joke.

Seriously, if this is your first ball, go into the pro shop and get a Power Groove measured and drilled. It shouldn't cost more than $125 out the door.

There is no other way around measuring your hand.

For that matter get a plastic ball.

Without you being there to be measured it would be nearly impossible to get a good fit. Once you have your measurements then you have a chance.

Don't be fooled by higher prices in pro shops, when your driller wants $180 for a high-end ball while Buddies has the same ball for $140, that doesn't include drilling while your driller's price does.  While there is often a difference between the online price plus drilling and the local price that includes drilling, for low-end balls like Power Grooves, it shouldn't be that much and for the first ball, it's definitely not worth it.

Just ask the driller for a copy of your drill form http://www.buddiesproshop.com/drilling/
just in case you want to get a ball drilled and shipped to you from an online seller.

And why would the driller provide it for you to do that? Last I checked pro shop owners didn't charge a separate fee for fitting. If they start charging for fitting like an eye exam, then you have the right to the info. If it's part of a ball purchase they aren't obligated to give it to you, even if it is your hand. They may choose to give it away, but I see no value in that for the pro shop, only the e-tailer.

It's also going to ruin any relationship you could  have with your driller, if you bring a ball to already drilled that needs substantial adjustments. The last thing I want to do is work out a ball that doesn't fit and has never been down the lane.

Doing business with any retailer is a two way street. So many online purchases are wrong for the customer. The OP is looking at premium balls online when he needs a Groove, Tornado, etc. A visit to a good pro shop would have set him in the right direction instead of being told what to get by strangers on a message board.

As a ball driller, I don't want to work off another's measurements anyway. Way too many shops use a non standardized system that can be confusing to a shop using a different system. I'd much rather match a ball than take responsibility for the supplied measurements being correct.
