To be brand loyal or not to be??
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:42:19 AM »
What are some of you guy's thought's on this? For the last couple years I have only used Storm and Roto Grip. My driller recently talked me into trying a 607 A-SE. I am just wondering how some of the better bowlers on here feel about this..Well any bowler really lol. I'm going to try the 607 for the first time tomorrow night i will post my experience.

I like to stick with one companys stuff, it is easier to setup a arsenal when you have balls designed to work together not mish mash of different covers and cores. Currently I am using Seismic Because I like the look I get from 900s covers.

Every once in awhile I will toss something in their different though, Like currently I have a MoRich RIP/R in my bag along with old AZO Ultima RP I use both more for leagues than anything else.

My bag this year is made up of the following:

Columbia Pure Physics - Med. Heavy to Heavy
Track 715C Medium-Med. Heavy
Track 300C Med. Light-Light Med.

With these three and my plastic I am able to cover most of the conditions that I see.

I look for the ball to fill my slot for my game and am not that worried about having them all from the same company.

Unless you're being paid by a company to be 100% brand loyal, why would you want to purposely limit your choices?  I like to keep my options open!

the last couple years ive gone with mostly one company and filled in gaps with other stuff. if that one company provides everything i need, i would use only them

I've used a lot of Brunswick and Morich the past several years with great success. I've tried several other brands here and there along the way with some success. Not many companies put out a bad ball these days.(can't afford to)

Sometimes you may have to tweak the cover for your style of bowling or condition but other then that there is nothing wrong with trying some of the other great offerings out there. Your not a Pro getting paid to use a product so don't feel you should be limited.

I know some friends who are brand loyal but I am not anymore.  I use what ever works at the time.  Plus, I always tweak the cover to make it work for me.  The only ball oob I have is the natural.

However, if someone were giving me free balls then I would be very brand loyal.

Personally, I would not limit myself this way. How often does it happen that you need a certain recction shape, and "your" brand just does not offer a good basis to achieve it? I think it is also an intelligence aspect to get to know other manufacturers and their product concepts. Lanemasters balls, with their high RG and lower differential, used to be "different", or VBP balls. IMHO, trying out such pieces is never wrong. You can surely stubbornly stick to one brand (esp. when you are paid for it), but I do not see much benefit from a player's point of view.

I have gladly been trying out´a wide range of manufacturers and balls, and I found it to be a great source for learning.

However, if you ARE loyal to one company, it makes it much easier to coordinate and match your bag, towel, ball, and snazzy shirt so you look like a paid professional!  lol

I never really set out to be brand loyal but I had great success with 2 storm balls (all I had in that time) over a span of 12 years so I've stayed with what works. I've since bought a Virtual Gravity and Hy-Road but finally switched to another brand with the Brunswick Slingshot for my "left arm experiment".

I bleed Storm and Roto-Grip...........

I mean I've been throwing Storm loyally since 98......   why??  because I love the stuff they are putting out there for us to use.....  my first Roto-grip was the Fuel.... sadly it was stolen from me lol.......

But I've recently picked up two RG Theory's........

Why do i stick with these??  because I know I can go in and have a ball drilled up and for the most part know how this ball will react before I get to the lanes...

I mean I'll never use Brunswick..... If I had another ball company to chose from , I'd go with Columbia.....

Ebonite International`s four brands cover all of the shapes even the staff guys for their individual companies use the other brands under their umbrella during the week. I use balls from all 4 brands and am able to get the shapes I`m looking for.
