Week 5: PBA Experience .........Scorpion........

Week 5
PBA Experience
Scorpion Pattern
20 year old wood house just recently resurfaced last year
Arsenal: No Mercy (1000 Abralon) - Black Widow (2000 Abralon)- Blue Vibe (4000 with light polish)- Special Agent (4000 grit Smooth) and Shift(Polished)

What an interesting pattern which is oiled 41ft with a greater amount of concentration down lane. The backends were stripped so there was a ton of movement on the backend. I played down 10 in practice and it was too much. I migrated left playing 16 to 12 using a polished Shift and it would roll and set up. THe right lane was 4 boards drier than the left lane. AS long as i kept it out to 10 it was perfect. I shot 259 the first game. Awesome. Game two i made some bad shots. I left a nasty 3-5-6 almost missing the head pin totally dead left. I chop the 3-5. First open of the night. I go double then spare spare. From then on i went sheet for 245. During the end of game 2 i can see the oil has carried down. My movement to the pocket was getting less and less. I told my self to start moving right using 1 and 1 parallel moves and also trying to stay with the ball at release long to get more fingers. Both lanes was up and down. I whiffed a 6-10 in the 7th which was bad. THen i marked the rest of way. After i missed in the seventh i switched to a 2000 abralon black widow to get an earlier read. It did just that but the carry wasn't there. ON the last shot in the tenth i amped it up a little and the ball finished strong. I died and shot a 180. Boooooooooooooo. I know. Two good games then nothing. Plus the other team moved into my track with dull surface balls and it made everything a roller coaster ride. Oh well. Another fun experience.

Overall - 259 -245 - 181 = 685.

I suggest playing these lanes straighter. Use something strong and mild with surface then switch as you go. Do not be deceived by the free hook in practice because it all goes away quickly especially if you have other players bowling different lines.

Tell me your expereinces and explain what strateiges worked and didn't work.

I'll report again next week.

We bowled last night on the Scorpion pattern that was on Brunswick synthetics.

I used my Morich Revs with out of box and shot 170 with 3 one pin missed spares. I tried using my No Mercy that is out of box that I know of since I bought it once drilled. Couldn't get the ball to move 3 boards. Went back to the Revs and shot 163.

Tried going straight, tried going inside 20 area to around 16 and could get to the hole, but couldn't string anything.

Shot 137 last game for a 470 series which is the lowest set I have had in league in over 20 year.

So all you bowlers that shoot these big sets on the PBA patterns that post them on this board. I take my hat off to you.

ps, my left knee is acting up again, then one that might need replacement

The scorpion has been my best of the first four patterns we played on (we get the Cheetah for the first time tomorrow).  I averaged 209 for two weeks on it.  I ended up playing outside, down the boards around 5-6 with a G-Force Solid.  I had good recovery from that area of the lane and some margin of error.
