NIB balls for future use
« on: October 09, 2008, 01:32:23 PM »
I am thinking about getting an extra ball or two before they discontinue them. Is it a good idea? Is there a "shelf life" for reactive balls?

What is the best way to "preserve" them?

Thanks!

Balls will more often than not be fine as long as you keep them in a safe place.  My favorite spot is in the spare bedroom closet. Usually under some old comforter so the old nosey woman can't keep tabs on my inventory. LOL

I would stay clear of stacking balls on top of each other, I have seen many crack this way.  I would also make sure that you keep it in an area where the temps. don't fluctuate too much.  But other than that you should be fine.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!

I am thinking about wrapping them up in cotton towels and then into 2-3 plastic bags. Hope they'll stay "fresh" until I need them.

Or should I put them in plastic bags first?

Keep them off of the basement floor.
Had a few crack that way.

In a recent article in their Pro Sho Insider, Ebonite recommended to not let the ball set in one position on a hard surface for an extended time.  Either use a ball cup to spread the weight over more area or some foam or other softer surface.  --  JohnP

I've seen balls crack all over the place, but usually, when there are no holes, there are no weak spots.

Just keep it off of hard, flat surfaces (cotton towel idea gets thumbs up) and keep it out of temperature fluctuations and you should be fine.

This is, providing, that you wait to drill it until it's needed. Don't drill then store.

I'm doing the same thing with one ball I like (SR300), and I wish I had done it with my Smash Time Solid, because I've had 2 of those now, and wish I had a 3rd, 4th, and maybe 5th.

High rev rate (400-450 rpm)
Semi-high speed (16-17 mph)
Book average: 193 (current 236)

For a game based on the principles of science and math, bowling sure does have a bad habit of being illogical.
