quick question
« on: August 14, 2007, 12:21:53 AM »
I am a full roller, and sometimes I get the Morich Drilling put on my bowling balls.  I was told to find a bowling ball with a low top weight, but my question is, what pin distance should I be looking for?  Also, does anyone know of a way I can get a discount from Buddies, I'm looking into buying 3 of the new hammer balls from them.  Thanks.

The low top weight is probably so that you can lay the ball out and not need a balance hole in a weird spot.  What's the Morich Layout for full rollers?

My guess is that you want a pin length that puts the CG close to grip center even if the pin is farther away.

The Morich Drilling has the pin about 10 inches(somewhere close to that) out from center of grip

That's nearly on the other side of the ball, and with normal pin lengths of 2-5", that will put the CG on the bottom or side of the ball.  Low top weight will keep you from having too much bottom weight.  You're only allowed 3oz of bottom weight, and between having the CG on the bottom half and drilling the fingers and thumb, you'll easily go over that (part of the point of top weight is to compensate for weight removed during drilling).

If I remember right, the pin is at 1:30 10" out.  This is basically the standard full-roller layout but with the core inverted (put the anti-pin at 7:30 like the standard FR layout).

Where's the weight hole supposed to be?  I can't imagine this layout not requiring a weight hole for most balls.

If it's a low top weight, the weight hole is not that big.  it is to the right around the 3 o'clock position on the side of the ball.  And yes, the pin is on the otherside of the ball.  If the top weight is high, then it takes a lot of work to make the ball legal.  I have one with a huge weight hole and it still needed more taken out of the middle finger to get it within specs.  I don't put this drilling on everyuthing.  I have it on my BW, and thinking about putting it on a BWP.  Probably going with conventional full roller on No Mercy Beat'n.  The Anger, I want to try a new layout I've never seen, but it was in the drilling instruction sheet.  It has the pin around the 2 o'clock postion.
