League bowlers Dream!!
« on: November 02, 2003, 03:28:53 PM »
Hi all, my dream, and yes, I HAVE A DREAM. Is to to be able to close all frames in a game, Im av around 160+, Cover around 15-20 boards on first ball, and roll straight at spares. Getting slowly more consistant, just wondering at what point you fellow posters started closing frames consistantly and how your average was effected, also how has your concentration/focus has changed/improved.....

I have been bowling on and off for 3 years, with significant breaks, due to 2 wild boys!!, and I'm getting back into bowling again. Feels like
i'm always starting out at bowling again after long breaks. Anyway
i would love to read any and all your thoughts and opinions on this, as I'm sure that I mustn't be alone in this regard.

Additional: I don't mind if I never get to a 200 av, just wanna close all frames
See ya LL

Yeah - and there should be an award for it, too! I'll be proposing it to our local association here real soon.

One local association I used to belong to had a "Closed 30" Award - it was for a clean series. Although the 800 award was highly sought after, the closed 30 was probably next...

I shoot about 4 or 5 clean sets a season. Had one last week - 738. The lowest one I ever had was in a womens state tourney a couple of years ago - 602. I shot a LOT of spares that day!

Filling every frame in a series is a great acheivement.  Our local association has a award called an All Fill Series.  I know one person that has done that, but I beleive that not too many people around here know about that little award.  My thoughts are to go to your local association and ask them if they have an award like this, and if they do not see if they will adopt one.

I have 2 800s and 0 closed sets. A closed set is my goal every night I bowl, but I never seem to make it. I always seem to leave one split that kills it, or I just plain miss an easy spare.

Hey Coach, I guess I should take some comfort in what u posted. I can probably count on both hands the number of times I have closed an entire game. Its quite frustrating, if I could only close the 2-3 at most frames I leave open, Im sure the average would be up around 20 + pins. Something to aim as a long term goal.

Thanks for all feedback..

Bowled today 189,170... missed 5 frames... Damn it!!
My goal is to forget about scores, and fill my frames. Unfortunately my concentration wanders a little, and everynow and then I find that as I release my ball, I notice that I haven't truly focused on several key fundamentals in my approach. The result of this, especially on first balls, can be rather unpleasant.

Any tips on this one??

Also Superman, you kinda make it seem that the "200" is pretty basic, and easily attainable for the league bowler. The way I see it, if your average is 200, then u must be very consistant, and should be regarded as an extremely competant bowler.. Love your thoughts on this one...

I just had my first all clean series this week.  I've come close once before (9th frame of the 3rd game), but was able to get there this time.  I was far more proud of the 30 clean than I was of the 700 series I had.  Our association gives out an award for the feat, and I don't know too many people that have gotten it.  The key for me was that I only missed the pocket twice and only had one 8 count...the rest were strikes or 9 counts.  Now I need to work on my carry to get the 720 series when I hit the pocket 28 frames out of 30 to turn into an 800.
