Up coming league ideas
« on: May 05, 2020, 04:42:50 PM »
Thinking about the upcoming fall season dealing with social distancing ideas. Maybe have each team on a pair of lanes. I know some leagues take the entire house so it's possible teams may have to bowl on different days. Maybe we can all brainstorm with different ideas during the summer to address it. I hope everything will be back to normal by the fall but we should have some contegeency ideas. Let's see what we all can come up with during this down time in the season.

The one house I bowled at had a “bowl anytime” format. This was a summer league. Format is you had to bowl between Sunday-Saturday. If you didn’t bowl by close Saturday night you received zeroes for that week. The league secretary picked up all the scores and had standing sheets available for when you bowled at the front desk. Unique format. I heard the common issues people had which was my opponent bowled on different conditions than I did and I had a bad pair but my opponent had a good pair (you see what pair everyone bowled on). But it’s sure better than not bowling.

I brought up a similar idea of one team per pair on another forum, and immediately everyone said absolutely not because it wouldn't be fair.  The main objection was that a team could shape the lane the way they wanted and drive up their scores by not having the other team there to push oil around.  Personally, I don't think it would be that big of a deal.  I bowl on a super competitive scratch league, and we literally never have discussed a strategy where we try to create a track area on the lane for our team.

The biggest thing I am hearing that centers are considering is limiting teams to 3 per team.  Also removing furniture/seating to allow people to stay the typical 6ft away from others while waiting for their turn.

At the end of the day, it will just come down to doing whatever it takes to get back to bowling.  If that means one team per pair, reducing team size, bowling on different days and matching up scores, bowling with a mask on, whatever!  I'll go with it.

Double stripped lanes, 40" oil in length, 1:1 oil pattern.  Juiced up front and squeaky clean back end.....

Trio teams, scratch format.  Team on left lane enters names first, team on right lane chooses their match up.

Let's go.....  :)

I like it and it's almost guaranteed to keep most people out of the bowling alley.

Totally agree, but it's my idea of a great league.  I'm in the minority.....and you'll never be able to accuse me of avoiding a challenge.

Or, for all those who reject a challenge and want/need free hook ("I just want to drink some beers and throw some strikes" guy, AKA the majority of bowlers)......why not make a THS league where you have friction built in to the outside and shape in the pattern, less flat but of varying lengths.

Left lane 44ft THS and right lane 36ft THS......or some gimmick like that.

Look at me be a populist. :)
