What to do?
« on: January 24, 2007, 04:18:21 AM »
I am using a 15lb ball. I throw it about 17mph. I am considering either moving up to 16lbs or dropping to 14lbs. I guess I figure if I throw 16 I might smash the pins a little better and it might relax my armswing a little more.If I go with a 14 I can throw it faster with less work and get more revs but, then the ball might deflect. What would you do or have you had to make this choice before? Thanks!!

Moving up might make you work harder and moving down would force you to slow it down. It's a push in my opinion, but my personal choice is up.

Facts about me:

I throw around 15.5 mph
I'm 5'10 around 165
I benchpress around 100 lbs
I have small arms lol
I throw 16 lb

EVERYONE says you need strength or you need to be a bigger man/woman to throw 16. Not for me. I can still go out and throw 35 games and feel like Im using 15 sometimes even 14 lb stuff.

For me I see ALOT better pin carry off bad shots and I also feel like Im not grabbing the ball any more. My swing feels great and it feels alot more free.

Thing is, I still have as many revs if not more and Ive noticed NO MATTER what you do when it comes to ball speed, your body will adjust and throw it the same with heavier or lighter equipment at some time. Example of this would be me going from 15 to 14 once. I was throwing the ball a little harder, but after some time I was throwing the ball the same speed. Now that I throw 15's instead of 16's my ball speed has actually increased a little and I think that is in part of having a better arm swing.

If your already throwing 17 mph, I would change to 16's if your wanting to change because you will see a heck of alot better pin carry IMO.
