Hi All,
Just looking for some advice here. I bowl with no thumb, the reason is because i can't control a reactive resin ball. I hook it gutter to gutter. Urethane carries longer for me and it allows me to throw from different angles depending on the oil without having to change balls. My speed is max 14.5-15mph. I dont want to throw harder. I want to go back to reactive or try it again. Why? I dont know, it hits harder. I avg 205 last 2 years
Should I stick with Urenthane or switch?

You're not going to be happy until you try reactive again. Go with a very weak one like a Columbia Scout, reactive cover with a pancake weight block. Drill it weak. -- JohnP

There are too many variables to just say yes or no. It sounds like urethane is more versatile for you, so why change? Your other option would be plastic with a core. Take a look at the new Hammer Black Widow Spare

Hate to say it, but if you are determined to use stronger equipment, you may need to adjust your release, speed, or both.
Or find a house with more oil.

Sounds like the lanes are not oiled often. Go plastic ball with core. Hammer Widow Spare with gas mask core or Track has a "Spare Plus" with an asymmetrical core as well.

I suppose it is possible that you are playing such a dry condition that resin just wont work, but with your ball speed you are most likely way on the rev dominant side. Also, what is your goal? To score high, or to hook the ball a bunch. No problem either way, but it is tough for people on these boards to help you unless you are trying to improve your game, not just hook the lane.

I've been bowling with no thumb for years now. I average 205 so scoring higher i can do by adjusting, or being more consistent i'm sure. I guess my question should be.. what are the advantages or disadvantages of a resin ball vs. urethane?

The answer to the question is whatever ball works for the lane condition you are bowling on that day. I bowl with approx the same ball speed as you and I am old school and still hit up on the ball a lot, creating a lot of revs. And at the ball speeds you and I throw at, reactives tend over-react on the back ends. So you you want to find balls and drilling patterns that burn up a little through the mid lane so that you avoid that snap on the backend. Urethane gives you that more mild backend reaction.
Reactives give you a stronger reaction to friction than urethane. If you can find older reactives, those cover stocks are milder in today's lane conditions.
There are some professionals that bowl with no thumb that exclusively use urethane. Any even Jason Belmonte who is considered one the of best two-hander (no thumb) bowlers on the planet, if not the best, will tell you he can struggle on shorter patterns because even with his ball speed over 20 mph when he needs it, his excessive rev rate still makes the reactives too strong.
With your ball speed, I would suggest I you have all three actually, mild cover reactive, urethane, and plastic with a core. That gives you the most versatility to find the best reaction on any given day.
