USBC Nationals Payout?
« on: July 31, 2007, 08:18:44 PM »
This year was my first year bowling nationals so I was wondering, how long does it usually take since the tournament is completed, for the checks to get in the mail?

Don't spend it all in one place. It really can be life changing dough.

Over on the forum on bowl.com, it's been reported that there has a been a protest filed, and checks will not be sent out until it is settled. The spokesman for USBC says it will probably be at least a week late, if not more. A message will be sent as soon as the checks are in the mail.

Yep.  I believe the protest is against the team that won.  The winner of the team event for whatever the reason, requested to be moved to a pair of lanes where they would be bowling by themselves.  They did not bowl on their assigned lanes.  It just sucks that because of this, that noe everyone has to wait until it is settled to get their money.  No teling how long it will take.

I think you are wrong about the protest.
Another team had a former EXEMPT player on it.
Problem was he bowled too early after coming off of the national tour.

I've got over $1k comin, but in all seriousness, I don't blame them for protesting, it seems as though the first place team may have potentially gotten there via unfair circumstances...but, even if that is determined, what are they going to do, DQ them and move everybody up a spot?

I heard there was an issue with a guy that came in Top 50 in All-Events in which he bowled Teams one weekend, bowled Doubles another weekend, and bowled Singles a different weekend.  Not sure how this happened, but that's going through the rumor mill as well.

Why does everyone try to make it harder than it really is?  Overthinking makes the game that much more difficult.

Ok.  Here is the deal with this.

IF it is the guy that I am thinking of filing the protest, he sponsored at least 2 of the guys that I know of on that second place team.  I am aware of this because those 2 are from my hometown and bowl in my league on Wednesday Night.  What happened, was that Lava Lanes apparently looked at the lane assignments before their squad and noticed that there were some open pairs available.  They went to the Tournament Officials and stated that they wanted to get done a little earlier, as they were bowling a late squad. So they wanted to know if they could switch to an open pair and bowl by themselves.  They were allowed to make the switch by the official and it just so happened that they took the lead in Regular Team Event.  Before I went out to Reno to bowl (middle-end of June), I was sitting in his office as he was backing me in brackets.  He was on the phone with both Reno and USBC in Wisconsin, I believe, saying that if teams are allowed to switch pairs for the heck of it, then that opens up all 15000+ teams to be able to do the same thing and wanted to know if they were prepared for such a thing.  If and only if the original pair had a break down or other extenuating circumstances could switching pairs actually be allowed. Of course, if the team had finished way down the list, this may not have taken place.  But, being that they were in the lead with only a couple weeks to go in the tournament, this means less money and the prestige that comes with owning an Eagle.

That is what I know about the situation.  I am not 100% sure that my sponsor is the one doing the protest.  But, I do know that he has been in contact with USBC about the issue stated above.
