IQ Tour Solid vs Devour
« on: January 03, 2016, 09:52:09 PM »
With similar layouts and OOB finishes, would it be safe to put the Devour below the IQ Tour in the bag or will I have overlap?

Thoughts?

From the reviews on this site for the Devour, below the IQ Tour is about right.

Thank you for the comment.  I looked over the reviews on a few sites and I get the same opinion, so in the bag it goes.

By IQ Tour, do you mean the original Blue/Black solid?
If so,
would it be possible for you to report back on this comparison, when you feel you have enough games on both balls to give an idea what you see as the difference?

While I never see enough oil to use either one of these, I am very interested in how they compare. When I looked at the BTM reviews for these two balls, it would seem that Devour is slightly stronger overall. So, I am curious to understand what you see.
Thank you.

Yes I mean the blue/black solid version. I should be able to come up with a more detailed comparison.  I will be hitting the lanes next week for some practice and that sounds like a good time to try both of them.

Here is an update:  tonight at league, I was using my IQ Tour Solid and one lane seemed to be drying out a little so I switched to my Devour.  The reaction shape was smooth like the IQ, but it was definitely weaker than the IQ.  I left 2 flat 10 pins with the Devour and put it away.

I plan on throwing some games tomorrow and get some more comparisons between the 2 balls.  My initial thoughts are that the Devour has the same smooth reaction as the the IQ but its weaker.  I would say you could use them as a 1-2 punch.

While it hooked less than the IQT, leaving flat 10 pins is usually a sign that the ball lacked energy at the pocket. Either it hit the dry too early or it burned up in the midlane getting to the pocket. So it could be that the surface was slightly too aggressive for the oil amount. But it's too early to tell exactly what is happening. Thanks; keep up the good work

In any case, waiting for the next report.

Another update:  I was able to bowl with both my IQ Tour and Devour on some 2nd squad THS conditions.  I bowled on one lane, so I alternated frames throwing each ball.  The IQ Tour is definitely stronger than the Devour, and both has the same smooth reaction.  I was standing 20 board with the IQ Tour and 17 board with the Devour with my feet and had a 2 board difference at the foul line after a slight drift.

That 3 and 2 board difference may not sound like much for some people, but for someone that doesn't cover a lot of boards and not much hand...that is a big difference.  It is an EXTREMELY rare feat whenever I get left of 20 board...even on the driest of conditions.  Someone that has more hand and covers more boards, my guess would be that they will experience a more pronounced difference between the balls.

IMO, you can use them as a 1-2 punch with the same layouts and OOB surfaces.  I thought about putting some polish on my Devour, but I think I am going let some lane shine develop first and see how that changes the reaction.

Devour has a significantly higher RG than IQ tour.  Usually this causes a ball to be a bit more angular off the break point.  The best thing about the IQ is its control on flatter patterns.  I am looking at a Devour to replace my IQ at the TAT where I have to throw Roto in one event.  Thinking about using a shorter pin to PAP layout than on my IQ.
