Today's Show - ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
« on: November 01, 2003, 10:37:04 PM »
By far one of the most boring shows of all time. I'm not even going to donate 97 minutes of a cheap $1.50 video tape. This show gets taped over next Sunday.

yeah, I read more into Bamaster's post than just the part you agreed with. It's still just discussion. He acts like he takes it personal and I don't get that.

gee, ya think some of that might have to do with Tony having competed with some of the people on the show?  Anyone can second guess what was out there and proclaim how they would have done things differently.  It IS incredibly easy sitting back and being an armchair general...and my guess is that part of Tony's point is that if it is so easy, go cash your two checks and then show us how it is done, especially when one bad shot on the show can turn into a $30K mistake.

Yeah, I know it's just a discussion, but frankly listening to the masses talk about how the PBA doesn't please them is old.

I'm not saying that things are perfect.  But I AM saying that the decision makers know more about what they are doing than we do.

Here is an analogy.  Many people had an opinion about whether we were wrong or right about overtaking Saddam, correct?  They read this and that in the paper so they feel they know what is going on.  Do you really think ALL the facts were available to us?  Could it be that there was some (maybe a lot) information that was confidential and only available to a select few?  Could it be that those people made the best decision based on information only they knew?

I think it's the same way with the PBA.  Only a few people know ALL the facts.  Only a few people REALLY know what is going on.  Those are the ones that are making decisions.  And those are the ones that are in the best position to make them. And cetrtainly they wouldn't make a decision if they didn't feel it was the best option.

You go Tony!  I'm with ya.

The ONLY thing I can complain about with the PBA is the way they run Strike Pass.

Glad your site is back up.

Good points Tony, but.... I do hope they dont feel that showing shirtless hooligans is one of their best options.

I apologize, I'm no pro. I still watched the show. I watch every time I can. Maybe better scoring conditions on the show wouldn't draw one more viewer. Like I said I'm just saying what crossed my mind as I watched. Michelle, you don't have any idea what my "two checks" would be do you? I respect those who compete at that level as much as anyone else. I also never claimed I could do it any better. Bottom line you guys have read a lot more into what I said than visa-versa IMO. I'm still gonna watch this week too, in person if I can.

Ken, the two checks would be two cashes at the regional level.

Tony, I know where you're coming from.  However, if the majority of viewers are displeased with the current show, that should send red flags up to those in charge of the telecasts (I have no idea the # of satisfied viewers vs dissatisfied ones).  I'm not saying those in charge don't see it or deal with it in the best manner they can, but IMO people who post on here about their displeasures with the show probably do so because they fear if it doesn't change to attract more viewers, it will not be around in any shape or form in the future.  Outside of voicing that opinion here, what else can they do to try and make a difference?

9 you have captured the thought that I am having. I can only comment as a spectator, because I am one. "The masses" are the reason there is a PBA or any professional sport. To those of you gifted enough to compete at a professional level, my hat's off to you.

I guess my point is that, while things are not perfect... things ARE changing.  The people in the know understand that everything is improving.  PBA entries are up, telecast viewers are up, overall awareness is up, etc.

I would rather see Robert Smith crush them than Walter Ray any day.  WRW is difficlut for me to watch, I hate his form.  But the guy can repeat shots like no one else. I've crossed with Waliczek a couple times in regionals, and the guy is as nice as the come and gots tons of talent, but he's not entertaining, not even when he's bowling pro-ams.

I hear the point about a match not being fun to watch, but it's more because of the bowler's personalities than not.  Bowling never has made much of a television show.  Other than having Jim Rome behind the mic (now THAT would be funny cuz he hates bowling), not sure what else could be done.

From what I've heard from a couple of the touring guys, the PBA has some of the best people studying sports telecasts.  ESPN is helping them too, from what I hear.  Everyone wants the sport to rise to the top.  It's in everyone's best interest.  Money to be made.  For now, I'll just leave the future to those folks.

bamaster, these discussions are what the PBA executives want.  They need passionate people talking about their product.  I agree that they are headed in the right direction and with Steve Miller's guidance, the PBA will prosper.  I did some mild research on this gentleman and he has an extremely impressive career.  Of course, I am biased because he was one of three guys at Kansas State that had the forsight to hire Bill Snyder as head football coach and give him complete authority over all matters concerning the program.

I am excited about this season because I know that just about every bowler who thinks he has a chance to compete on the PBA is lacing up this year to try and win one of the few exemptions on next year's tour.  Looking into next year, I see the PBA promoting these exempt stars so that all bowling fans know their names and even casual observers will know a few names.
