Jeff Richgels aka riggs on BR.com deserves to be in the Hall but fat chance he'll get in now that they wiped out the amatuer catagory.  Read the articles and see who got in and then read his USBC accomplishments much more than some of the ones that did get in although they are well known and Nat'l tour players.

Peterson Classic Doubles Champion (2003). Peterson Classic Team Champion (2003, 2004 & 2006). 27 PBA Regional Titles. National Resident Pro Championship Champion (1993) (event now known as National Regional Players Invitational). Midwest PBA Player of the Year (1994 & 1999). ABC Team Champion (1986). ABC All-Events Champion (1997). ABC Doubles Champion (2005). ABC Team All-Events Champion (2005). U.S. Team Trials Champion (1985). Gold Medal Recipient for Trios and 5-man Team in FIQ American Zone Championships (1985). Wisconsin State Tournament Doubles Champion (1990). Wisconsin State Tournament Team All-Events Champion (2001 & 2003). Madison (Wisconsin) City Tournament All-Events Champion (1984, 1994 & 1995). Madison (Wisconsin) City Tournament Singles Champion (1990 & 1994). Madison City Tournament Team Champion (1995, 1999, 2002, 2004 & 2006). Metro All-Star Scratch Tour - 15 Titles. Wisconsin Non-Pro Bowlers Alliance - 3 Titles. Wisconsin Scratch Bowlers Tour - 4 Titles. Midwest Bowlers Tour - 1 Title. B.I.G. Tour - 1 Title. Central Wisconsin Scratch Bowlers Tour - 1 Title. I don't believe Pete Weber has ever won an eagle and he is in the USBC hall of fame.

You are going to throw him out as well.

what's more interesting than anything else is what were some of the judges thinking when they voted on prospective candidates for the usbc hall of fame. walter ray williams, jr., did not receive 100% of the available votes----what were they thinking ?  brian voss only received 70.4% ? do these people who do the voting know anything about bowling ?

Sounds like Walter Ray and Voss might have made some powerful enemies over the years...

Greg, if you read the article the biggest gripe is that Voss should not of been elected at all.  PBA Hall of Fame, sure.  USBC Hall of Fame?  Not as convincing of an argument there.

My ex team mate Paul Renteria deserves to be in the usbc hall of fame, 2 time july high roller winner alot of 300's and 800's over 1.5 million dollars of winnings as an amateur.

The guy can bowl on dirt or floods, he gets no respect around Vegas but when a regional comes around the guy makes match play and does well without even knowing the patterns anymore, he did bowl national tour and made shows in the 1980's never winning though.

I will always hear how washed up he is but he still keeps on making money in sweepers and tournaments when he enters. I wish i had half the talent he has and he is great person if you really know the him.

It's a good article.  It causes one to think.  Scott's point about Riggs is an excellent one.  Richgels deserves USBC HOF recognition as much as anyone.  His USBC credentials are equalled by few others.  Yet, he will have great difficulty in achieving USBC HOF status now that the category for amateurs no longer exists.  No amateur bowler will have much of a chance.  Amateurs lack the name recognition needed to garner the percentage of votes needed.  But how can we be surprised that our national organization fails to get this right?  Look at how the game has "prospered" under their (ABC/USBC) stewardship over the last 30 years.

Amateurs with impressive credentials (like Richgels) get on the ballot.  They just don't have the household names of the professional bowlers and therefore don't get elected even though their USBC credentials are greater than those of the professionals.  This is why a category for amateurs separate from the pro's is needed.

exactly, how can you say that a guy with 4 eagles and many state awards is less deserving of a superior performance election than a guy with 20 pba titles.... neither are less deserving, just belong in different categories...
