Title: want to start recording self for practice
Post by: TeeP Nade on January 30, 2015, 11:48:55 PM
i want to start recording myself when i practice, would any regular recording source work just fine what would be a preferred digital camera if i were to start recording myself practice. also what is a good software for breaking down videos, from things like overlaying 2 videos, slow mo, and like a ball trajectory type thing, and anything else that'll help me improve my game, and my consistency in league.

If you have a smart phone, an app like video pix  for slow motion, and the correct camera angles - directly behind head to feet, and a side view with your whole approach then you should be good to start.

Or go see a coach that does video analysis

With my iPhone, I use an app called "Ubersense". It is a coaching app that allows you to slow everything down, do side-by-side comparasion, and overlay. The app is free although you can upgrade to premium version.

I believe if you upgrade to premium, you can save videos and then access them on your computer for a bigger screen.

That is a great question. According to Ubersense's website, they make an android app.

Phones have come along way but id suggest using a video camera. Software of choice is AVS video editor.

I hope it works on your tablet. It is an excellent app that you can learn a lot from.

I agree with the above, nothing is better than a video camera because you can get it on a computer or tv screen and see it in much better detail. However, for a quick and easy video, Ubersense is the way to go. Works great for golf too. :)

I am still tempted to pay the $4.99 or whatever it is as long as that fee allows me to save videos to the online Ubersense data base and view them on my computer screen. Has anyone used this app and upgraded to the paid verison?

On android, I almost wonder if there's a way to extract the videos from the phone if it were rooted.

Another coaching app is Coachs Eye.  I think you have to buy this one.  Apple or Android available.

I have the free version of Ubersense on my iPad.

iPad.

In Ubersense, select a video, then Share, Export, Save to Camera Roll.

When you connect the iPad to the computer, you should get the option to (can't remember exactly how it is worded) transfer pictures and videos to the computer.

Edited to add:

I use a PC, so not sure how to do that with a Mac.

Oh, I got ya. I see it now. I use a PC as well so shouldn't be too difficult. However, when you transfer it, I'm sure you lose the ability to slow down and creep through the video.

Yes.  I use the PC as storage for the videos and can transfer them back onto the iPad later for viewing.  On Ubersense, you have the option to edit the video and can slow it down, etc, and then save that new version as another named video.  Then transfer that edited vid to the computer to view if that helps you.

Yes, you should be able to Import them.

Edited:

I haven't done that yet myself but I think I remember reading that it was possible.

Great idea MI 2 AZ. Storing all the videos on the app takes up a lot of storage. downloading them to PC is good idea, especially after you edit and save new video.

Great app, and yes to previous poster, you can easily import videos that you already have.

To Import vids in Ubersense, select Record, then you should see the Import option and can select from the Camera Roll there.  (iPad version).

I recorded myself for the first time the other night. Saw a lot of things I need to work on. We never look like we think we do. I used this program on my PC to view and trim my video. It says it's a golf program but it will work with bowling. It has some basic tool in the free version.    http://www.v1golfacademy.com/

You need to update your version of Android. I have the same issue on the tablet I wanna use it on. They haven't released an update yet so in stuck waiting. I believe you need to get to 4.4.3
