Matching me up, style with layout
« on: April 17, 2005, 10:35:32 AM »
The way I have been bowling, emphasizing technique and ball roll and accuracy over power and speed has given me a lot more confidence and I feel like I can compete almost anywhere I go on any shot except for one factor....the equipment. Everywhere I go it seems even the weakest ball I have other than plastic 'checks up' or rolls out way too early. I have most of my stuff drilled stacked and a two balls drilled pin under and it seems like if there is not a decent amount of oil out there I really have no hope. Most people say just swing it out, I try but by the time the ball reaches the head pin it is flat or sometimes the ball just rolls out with no recovery. I do not have any pin over drillings and have yet to try one and am thinking that it may be what I need to match up with my slow speed, med rev style. I will increase my speed to as fast as I can go but that is only 16-17 at most and I lose basically all control when doing that. The 13-14 mph is my comfort zone but a lot of my equipment gives me no hope of keeping my speed there due to early roll out or early/too much hook.

When school gets out for summer I am going to try to pick up an impulse zone and hopefully a crisis pearl or an older urethane piece for Ultra dry lanes(like at state I just returned from). I was thinking about possibly going pin over on the zone for a change. Also thinking about redrilling my untamed with pin over and polish that, I can NEVER use it because it rolls out WAY too fast and when there is enough oil it just doesn't finish like my power diesel does.

Anyway could anyone here give me advice on a pin over drilling or help me match up equipment with my style, this is where I feel I am limiting myself, I will be working hard on my spare game this summer and bowling sport shot so getting my arsenal straight would be very nice. If you have any comment or suggestions please post, anythings encouraged.(Sorry for another long post...)

In the mean time, polish up one of your medium balls, and move your feet and target in about five boards and play a tighter line.  The idea is to take advantage of the oil.  If you only move your feet, you just get the ball out to the dry faster and the ball will roll out and puke at the pins.  Since the cover is so important, you might want to sand finer before polishing.  Sanding to 1000-1500 before polishing can make a big difference over the base 400-600 than many companies use.

You really need to find your PAP before we can help too much with the drillings.  Pins higher will add some length of course.
