Weber Cup.
« on: October 19, 2020, 05:18:59 PM »
Well the first day has concluded and I’m not going to spoil it for anyone but had to mention how much I’ve enjoyed the coverage. It’s only 40 miles from me but unfortunately no attendance is allowed.

Darren Tang and Matt McNeil are commentating along with a a local Matchroom  stalwart who is not a bowler. However unlike watching the PBA he just rides around in the background and leaves it to the more knowledgeable people to comment.

Darren Tang was that informative that I actually sent him a Facebook message congratulating him on his hard work, the first message I’ve ever sent through Facebook. A credit to the PBA.

Matt McNeil is the most eloquent bowler I’ve ever heard. His knowledge of the game is outstanding. What a great pairing. Who ever sent these two young men over to do the commentary needs a big thank you too.

Now I’m not telling anyone the score but to watch the USA team was a privilege, not just the bowling but the team work itself. Chris Barnes is truly Captain America. He just winds up his players and they seem like they’d run through brick walls for him. His ability to read lanes in a team environment is something to watch. Awesome team play all around.

The Europe team haven’t gelled together as quickly so we’re yet to see the best of them but it’s a long tournament, first to 23 so there’s still time. I think they need to be more a team setting up the lane for each other, rather than 5 individuals.
Funny what a crowd can do for team moral, or lack of one.

If you get chance to watch it, please do I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as me.

Who said commentary doesn’t matter? It does if you get the right ones I can tell you. Randy and Stone et al had better watch out.

Roll on day two.....

I took lessons from McNeil a few years ago. The lessons were so-so, but he was truly a pleasure to chat bowling with.

Darren Tang is a good dude as well. So is his brother Michael. I've crossed paths with both of them several times as they are from the Bay area, so we travel in some of the same circles.

Is this going to be televised at some point?  I don't think my DVR has anything scheduled.

http://www.webercup.com/  It's not being televised in the USA.  You can stream it but it's gonna cost.  I think you have to sign up for a month but unsure.  https://matchroom.live/home also DAZN https://www.dazn.com/en-US/welcome

Day 1 results you can find on YouTube and updates @WeberCup on Twitter.

Yes scotts33 that’s correct, it’s a one month sign up on the website. I’m sure someone will YouTube it sometime but it is worth watching it if you get the chance.

Scores go up on the Weber Cup site as they happen so be careful if you don’t want to know the score.

Day 2 first match has just started. Guess what I’m doing.

Isn't that what Jeffrey Toobin said?

It’s sad when you have to look something up on Google when you don’t quite get the joke.

However with the luck Europe have, it may be an option.......high five anyone???? :-[

Well it’s over for another year.

Sad to see it finish as it was a great event. Seen some top class matches and great sportsmanship from both teams. Unbelievable how many games came down to the last ball, it was awesome. Great team event. Hopefully the PBA will do more team events next year and get this kind of team spirit back in the game year around rather than a once a year Elias cup.

Only sad thing was that one of your broadcasters in the US didn’t pick it up as it would have continued the good feeling that bowling has in the US at the moment. Exiting sport puts bums on seats and this would have done that.

So many special moments from 300’s, near 300’s, fantastic split pick ups. Games won from nowhere, games lost when you thought it impossible. Even a major comical moment.

Finally big congratulations to the winning team they totally deserved it. Bowling was the main winner here though.

If you wan t know who won then follow scott33’s link. Hopefully you'll get a YouTube up sometime soon.
