Hello guys,
Since it's the off-season for my bowling team, I decided to seek help from some of the guys behind the desk that have seen my bowl for quite some time. You see, a guy who bowls very well and goes to tournaments with my pro shop owner Mickey suggested me to do something different, and I'm very open to suggestions. He said that I was whipping the ball and instead I should practice a follow through that defines "let the ball do the work". Instead of whipping it (to get that extra "umph" speed) I should just let everything go naturally. To me, that seems very reasonable and I agree with it. However, something made me have second thoughts. Last Saturday I took out my Shock Zone Pro and the lanes were pretty good, but it required me to have speed to prevent it from overhooking. Trying the new follow through in practice, as I predicted the shock zone hooked away with the less speed. When I used the old style, I was able to put enough speed on it to stay on the left side (I'm a lefty) and have a good strong finish to the pocket. I shot 236-226-206=668, and particularly made me think why should I change it? For me, less speed makes me worried about how good of carry I can get and if the striking percentage would go down. If it helps to mention, I am currently working on the mechanics of a 4 step approach (Specifically the Pushaway on the first step which to me at the moment feels strange, I used to make the mistake of pushing away on the second step instead, causing some timing concerns) and that is there any other point in the swing where I can generate the power instead of a strong follow through?
Thanks for advice/reading my post, and sorry about the length
