Undersized bowling balls
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:26:32 AM »
Has anyone ever drilled a ball, and it felt short, but when you check it with a span gauge and pitch gauge, you were dead on? Other balls you drilled feel fine, spec out the same, but this ball, which has the same span and pitches (No bevel in the fingers here, and an IT interchangeable slug, so no worrying about bevel causing an optical illusion) feels like you have a claw grip on it and it's ultra short?

Or is this just something I experience? :P

I know how to test to see if it's undersized, but didn't when I had it in the shop. After throwing it a couple of shots, I think I should have. Doh.

Don't worry you are not alone.  I have balls that just do not feel the same to me although technically they measure identically to 1/64th and have the same pitches.

They don't feel right in my hand and they do not come off my hand as clean.

I do not use the IT system so you cannot do what I have done, but sometimes I just re-slug the thumb and re-drill it and it seems to help.

But yeah, I have balls that just feel so comfortable in my hand, and it sucks when I cannot match that feel in every drill.
