League Payouts in your area
« on: July 31, 2013, 07:40:42 PM »
Got a question for you that live on other areas. I will say I live in the SW.

8 lane house, 5 man teams, lineage is $9 and we only pay $16, so you can imagine how low the prize fund is. In addition, since we have a bunch of almost socialists who want to bowl this league at 90% handicap, the differential between 1st and last is almost nothing. If it was up to me, we would got o 70% and take the roughly $6k per year and split it $1500 for first, $1000 for second, and $500 for third for each half. No roll off bonus and if your team is lower than 3rd, tough S$%^!

If this league was in your home town, what would we be paying for the league and how much into the prize fund every night?

Thanks for the feedback.

Also, what do you pay in your area for lineage? We are in an area that just recently went to the no discount for league lineage but only pay $3 per game. Interested to see what other people in other places are paying.

Lineage depends on the house and league format around here. The ones I know run $10.50 to $12.00 for lineage on 3 games.

Leagues fees vary wildly. Most are in the $12.00 to $15.00 range. The higher payout leagues will generally run $20.

While some of the payouts maybe top heavy all the leagues I know of pay every place.

If you want to kill the league make it where 3 or 4 teams take all the money every year.

Agreed.  You will kill a league faster than any other factor by top loading it.

The fastest growing leagues in my area really aren't leagues in that they are drop in bowling by seniors.  Bowl weekday mornings $6/3 games free coffee and donuts no prize $$.  Come if you want bad weather don't.  As the baby boomers retire or are retired this is one of the fastest growing areas in bowling.  There are 5 senior men's leagues at 3 different houses in the Madison, WI area plus some weekday morning women's leagues that are dominated by senior women.

Lineage is 10.50 here.  Our scratch league has a late league discount that makes it 9, I believe, and most of the leagues around here are 14-17 dollars.  One of our leagues spreads the money around fairly evenly, but has a big pot for the top couple teams in a few position rounds at the end of the season, so trying to make that feels more like an incentive rather than an exclusion.  Our scratch league also has a lot of singles action, so even if your team isn't doing that great, you can make quite a bit of money if you're bowling well.

The two "money" leagues I bowl, are $20 and $25 a week. I don't know what the linage is.

The $20 league has outside money from sponsors. This league pays by points won during the season and then the top four(one winner per quarter), as decided by a season ending roll-off. The "sweeper" prize is almost irrelevant.

The $25 league pays by points won and then final ending position. Again, the "sweeper" payout is lunch money.
