What's the biggest bowling center you've bowled in?
« on: June 28, 2005, 08:26:09 AM »
Besides the Stadium in Reno, that is.

In Houston there used to be a place called Big Texan.  It had 74 lanes, on the sides.  The place was a monster.  Had tons of leagues and tons of tournaments.

Place was VERY mismanaged and was run into the ground.  Lots of people made a lot of money though.

So, what big center have you been to?

The Showboat, back when it was still the Showboat.

106 lanes, although only 70 across in the main part of the center.

Probably The Orleans in Vegas.  I'm not sure the # of lanes, but it seemed the biggest.

I used to bowl Kegler Bowling Club tournaments in the 70s in Edison, NJ there were over 100 lanes, I believe.  Also, during that same period there was a center in Willow Grove, PA that had over 100 lanes and Pentagon City Bowl in Arlington. Va had like 96 lanes, 48 on each side of the house.  All of these centers are now gone.

Gold Coast Casino in Las Vegas. I think they had at least 100. I'm going to Reno in a couple of weeks though.

I used to bowl league at the 106 lane showboat/castaways in vegas, subbed last week at sunset station strike zone which is 72 lanes one of the nicest centers ever built 27 million dollars. Easy shot there but food/drink charges are just outrageous so i am sticking to sunset lanes home a PBA regional which i am small sponsor of and the Gold Coast which is also 70 lane center.

Being in Vegas it is easy to go open bowling most nights and hit a different type of shot depending on which place you choose. I am also bowling the TAT this saturday at Texas station if anyone else is going to be in town and wants to bowl the same squad.

Thunderbowl Lanes, Allen Park, Michigan (has 94 lanes).  They're in three separate sections but all in a single row, sort of.  The first 20 are in a small stadium setting, then the next 54 are together, and then the last 20 are in another section (called the North 20) where they bowl Cosmic.

My home house, Imperial Lanes, is 80 in a single row.

A house in Erlanger,KY that I used to work at is Super Bowl. It used to be called Roll& Bowl with a roller skating rink upstairs and 32 lanes downstairs. It was bought in the late 70's and turned into Super Bowl with 32 lanes upstairs and 32 lanes downstairs.
The upstairs closed after the late shifts were done. The downstairs was 24/7. There used to be a league from the 3M plant that started at 0400. This was the 1800 to 0230 shift. They bowled on Thursday night/Friday morning--whatever you want to call it.

I bowl weekly at Freeway Lanes, in Wickliffe, Ohio. This alley is reported to be one of the largest in the country at 96 lanes (all in one section!).
This center was the site for the PBA Uniroyal Classic in Nov. 1994.
