Lane One Balls
« on: May 14, 2006, 03:06:10 AM »
I'm curious about Lane 1 balls. Why the inflated prices?? Are they really that good?? I've never seen any used around my area so I am just curious, Are they worth the xtra cash?? I've read the reviews and they all rave how great they are, and just wanted to know what some others think. I might try one just not sure about the xtra cash.

Here we go again.......Let me put this to bed before it becomes a huge flame war.

X-wing...the only way to find out if the Lane 1 balls are worththe extra money for you is for you to buy one and try it. For me they are better than any other ball I have used. For others they are just so-so and nothing special.

I prefer the smooth, strong roll I get from Lane 1's...I don;t get that with other balls. I get better carry with the Lane 1 stuff. I feel they are much more consistent than other balls I have used. Again these are just my opinions and experiences.

Why the price? This is the huge debate everywhere. My pricing on Lane 1 balls in my pro shop is only $15-20 higher than the high end stuff from other companies. For that extra $20 my customers know that any issue they may have with the ball will be taken care of an in an immediate fashion. Lane 1 cares about it's customers and will often go above and beyond what is expected to make their customers happy.

Not knowing anything about your style or the lanes you bowl on I would suggest you try either a Cobalt Bomb Pearl or a Carbide Plus as your first ball. They are distintly different and one or the other should work for you on your conditions IF your ball driller is familiar with the Lane 1 balls. If he is not, I suggest you get help on the layout from Lane 1 direct or ask me. I will always help out on that end even if you do not buy the ball from me. That cannot be said of others who sell the Lane 1 product online.

For more info, feel free to drop me a PM or an email. The addy is in the signature....

If you look at Lane #1 list prices, they are about the same as most other companys balls. Lane #1 refuses to give pro shop discounts so the pro shops  don't want to carry them because there's no profit on the ball, just the drilling. You have to figure to pay at least $25 more for a Lane #1 ball.

Also factor in that anyone who buys a Paradigm/Passion is paying the same price for that ball compared to a Lane#1 ball. Also consider the Elite balls, which if you include drilling are more than a Lane #1 ball and they are in a nutshell older technology. I have tried Lane #1 and had some success with it, just not enough to go buy an arsenal. Good balls, great coverstocks, more than likely worth the extra $20, especially if you are buying one to use for longer than 1 season.

Wow, I must say I am impressed not to see the typical bashing yet! I really do not have much to add. I have all of the current Lane #1 balls, and I will be the first to tell you that not all of them fit my bowling game. There are several that work very well, several that are useful over a wide variety of conditions, and a few I would not miss if my wife burried them in the garden.

If you could post a video of you throwing a ball, let us know what kind of lane conditions you are trying to conquer, and what lines you like to play, then we can give some educated recommendations as to which Lane #1 ball might be best for you to first try. I also agree that a used ball is a good way to go. Most of my arsenal was purchased new, but I have absolutely no complaints about the few used Lane #1 balls I have purchased. Try one. If you like it, you will undoubtedly become a sawhead. If you don't like it, no big deal, you sell it and keep looking.
