Title: What ball weight should I throw?
Post by: Hannah G on April 24, 2008, 10:39:40 PM
What ball weight should I throw given the following variables.  I throw a 13 pound ball 16mph, a 14 pound ball 12mph and a 15 pound ball drilled for a man with big finger holes 9mph.

Thanks for your help!!

I'd suggest a 14 lbs. ball. If it is drilled properly, the weight should be a little problem. But at 14 lbs., all balls have a dynamic core and the range of choice becomes much bigger since some balls are only offered in the 14-16 lbs. range. And the step up from 13 lbs. is not so big.

Speed needs to match up to the rev rate for the best carry.  So while the speed may decline with the heavier ball, my guess is so does the rev rate.

With time and practice, you'll adjust to the 14#.  It probably won't take long 1 pound is not much.  It's just a matter of building up some strength in the arm and wrist.
