What Does it Look Like to You?
« on: November 10, 2003, 01:30:31 AM »
Hey,

I just looked at the core pictures, of the new Storm Super Charge or the Flash Point, and was wondering if one looks like a shape familiar shape to anyone else.  If you take a Diamond Core, sand the edges just a bit, add the puck at the top,  what do you come up with?  I won't say for sure, but it sure looks familiar.

The core you are refering to is the Flash Point not the Super Charge.
I will say it for you looks similar to a Lane 1 core with out the mini nuggets.
I just wonder if it will be more expensive than the rest of the Flash line because of it. Looks like it might be a good ball going by spec, don't know about that modified "Diamond" core though, it might mess it up LOL.

Sawbones,

Yes there are patents on cores, and Lane 1 has one on the Diamond Core, and variations of it.  There is a possibility of a legal aspect here, but that will depend on the interpretation of the patent, and the desire of the patent owner.  I am sure that a lawyer will be consulted to see "if" there is any infraction, albeit unintentional.

There are many different kinds of patents, including "design", "mechanical", etc. Many such patents are not worth the paper they are printed on, more or less the time and money it takes to get one.
Many patents can easily be circumvented by altering, or changing one simple dimension of a piece, or part.
Depending on the patents that Lane1 holds, it may or may not be worth much.
Albeit, Lane1 was the 1st to utilize a diamond shape weight block, they did not design the "diamond" shape....that shape has been around before bowling balls.

Is this going to be a $300 ball?

Actually, to me, the core reminds me of a grenade.
