Title: What is everyone’s favorite pba tv commentating duo?
Post by: Geigs on June 06, 2018, 05:48:14 PM
What is everyone’s favorite pba tv commentating duo? Mine is the espn duo of denny schreiner, and mike durbin from the 80’s and 90’s. No brainer for me. They told it like it was, didn’t play favorites, had great knowledge of the game, and also had a great sense of humor without over doing it. Just started giving this some thought with the new fox deal coming, and was wondering who will be doing the commentating for the fox shows.

In recent shows I've enjoyed listening to Marshall a lot. Just say no to Randy and Stone

I’m with you sv. Marshall use to commentate for cbs when they covered pba bowling late 90’s. and did a good job. Fox and pba need a fresh voice, clean start, so randy’s got to go. Randy has his head so far up belmo’s ass, enough already.

I kinda liked it when Earl Anthony was doing it...but then I am an Earl Fan.

my favorites are any combo that doesn't include Randy Pederson or Rob Stone.  Can't stand watching a PBA event if either of those Tools are on the broadcast team.

Almost anyone not named Randy Pederson or Rob Stone(I say "almost" because, hard as it is to believe, there may, I say may, be some combination WORSE than those two).

Anyone other than Pederson, he is so bad and yet he keeps getting the jobs.  I think this really shows that either hardly anyone is watching, so networks don't care, or the networks don't have a clue about bowling and what makes a good bowling commentator.  For the PWBA, Kelly Kulick is pretty awful also.

Hambone Stone was a legend.

Recently watched the WPBA Queens match and the girls (led by Carolyn Dorin Ballard and Kelly Kulick)did a great job,
Explaining eklane transition, equipment, adjstments needed. Far more informative and entertaining for a bowling fan.

Looking forward to new FOX team, would welcome Holman back but I can’t wait for Peterson to be gone.   Tackett did a nice job on this week’s televised CBS show.

Durbin and Anthony were great as well. I just like Mike Durbin. Guy does both positions very well.

As a duo, Mike Durbin and Earl Anthony. Billy Welu is also on top of my list.

Randy is also pretty good as an analyst but today's TV format takes away from it.
There is too much audience noise (unnecessary incessant ,screaming and shouting ), coupled with the fact that today's bowlers' attire is too cartoonish and loud. It's bowling, not studio wrestling.

Marshall Holman and... hmm. Who's the black gentleman for Xtra Frame? He's ok. Dave Ryan was ok to listen to. Randy can be annoying as shit. I unfortunately can't remember commentating from the pre-2000's. Maybe if I go back and re-watch some of the shows.

BuddiesProShop's youtube channel has a BUNCH of old shows. Some of my favorites are the Dick Weber Classics (94 and 95), the Hilton Hotel Classic and Oregon Open.

For me, it would be:

1) Chris Schenkel and Nelson Burton Jr.
2) Denny Schriner and Mike Durbin
3) Mike Durbin and Earl Anthony
