First of all, make sure that the pilot holes are the proper size so that the inserts that you use feel the same in the ball as they feel by themselves; I speak from experience because I use 10th Frame inserts and the pilot holes were different for them that my previous inserts. Then, if they are a bit too tight, your pro shop will, if asked, sand them out for you to get that right fit.
BTW, I have used a product called Bowlers Ultimate Grip adjusters by MiloSports at
http://milosports.com/; they are 1/64" shims that you can slide in and out of the space at the top of your inserts ... they come with an insertion/removal tool for ease handling and they have worked very well for me since my fingers seem to vary in size depending upon the weather, my weight, and other variables.
Lastly, the retractable craft knife that was mentioned a few threads ago has worked well for me too to fine-tuned my fit.
Hope this helps ...
