What is the MOST VERSATILE PEICE YOU OWN
« on: November 23, 2007, 06:12:47 AM »
Just wondering what you guys think is the most versitile ball you own. I know it has to match up with the bowler, lanes, ect but what is the best ball you have had experience with and most versatile piece?

My Whirlwind is an extremely versatile ball for me.  I have used it in many different houses (synthetics and wood) with different oil volumes and patterns and I can always find a way to get it to the pocket with different releases.

Always carries well, regardless of conditions.

For me It has to be my VBP Violet Gargoyle.  It's constantly my go to ball/benchmark ball and it gives me the most consistant read and feel on a variety of different patterns. I have had success with it playing just about anywhere on the lane (up the ditch between 3-5 to a tight deep 25-27 board drift to just right of pocket, as well as swinging from everywhere on a wall).

You are going to get many different responses based on the different characteristics of each persons game.  The benchmark ball for a speed dominant stroker probably isn't going to be the same ball for a slow ball speed/rev dominant tweener/cranker. I like balls with an RG around 2.54-.56 and a differential around .038-.042 and I've thrown 3 different balls over time from different companies with similar drills and they all fit the characteristics of what I like in their reaction/versatility (had to change the cover slightly though).

So If I was to get a replacement for my gargoyle, right now it would probably be:

Rotogrip Illusion
Lanemasters Terminator Rebellion
AMF Nighthawk
Banger Whole Pounder Solid

Take what you like and on your next ball (if you want a similar reaction), try and get A) the RG/Diff. close to the same and B) the Cover close to the same. The same applies when you are using a ball with a strong mass bias.  (These balls I like don't have a strong MB though)

Epic Saga...without a doubt the most versatile piece that I have.  I can use it on any condition short of light oil.  Ball never wants to over hook, but doesn't seem to labor either.
