What is your benchmark ball?
« on: April 21, 2010, 03:48:30 AM »
I love this topic and I think it's important to talk about.  Many of us understand it but I thought I'd put it into words.
Here's my short version.

The benchmark is:

   1. The standard by which all other equipment is measured
   2. It's the ball that you take out to "read" the lanes.
   3. It's the ball that you use to decide which ball you will use to start.
   4. It's the ball that is your most versatile piece of equipment.
   5. It's the ball that transitions through the 3 phases - skid, hook, roll - smoothly.
   6. If you only could have one ball, it should be this ball.
   7. It should be the ball that you build your arsenal around.

Let me know what you think!

For the fun part, what is your benchmark ball right now?
Mine happens to be a Storm Furious.  I can generally get a good read on what's happening with the lanes.  I have equipment above and below it for my arsenal.  I used to love my V2 as the benchmark as it was even smoother than the Furious, but it's time to move on...

Well obviously the point of this was to drive people to your site to read the article and not list any particular ball.......I see that is working well!

Here's mine:  Brunswick Nemesis.

I appreciate getting "driven" to this site! All the articles are very well-written and informative, IMO. Thanks

Raw hammer jacked. Can use it on almost anything but can still tell me when something else would be more dominant.

Thanks for the positive feedback, 67Tbird as well!
I'm trying to get as much information out there as possible.  Forums are good for back and forth exchanges, but I am hoping my site gives people access to reference-like material.

I also like to see what people out there are using for their benchmarks.  My personal preference is for the medium to low end solid reactive equipment because of their versatility.  I see some people are also able to use higher end balls as their benchmark and that's fine too.
For those that bowl frequently and in different houses, it's important that the benchmark ball is readable anywhere you go, not just the ball you like the most in your "home" house.
