please recommend a replacement for my blue dot
« on: February 08, 2011, 08:29:34 AM »
my old columbia blue dot has a spider web crack pattern around the thumb insert and i am afraid it's days are numbered.  looking for suggested replacements, used almost exclusively for the 10 pin and i am still only about 70%.  i have slow ball speed and a lot of hand, my blue dot is drilled with neg side to try and reduce my tendency to hook it at the end.  so if you know of a replacement that has no break, please share :-).  tia

I would recommend the Columbia Blue Dot.

The new blue dots are way different than the silver blue dots.

The silver blue dot were actually a dynamic ball. The newer one is more like the white dots than anything

I'm in the process of trying to find out where I fit in the bowling world. I do not know my tech specs of my game, but it's all a learning process.

forgive my ignorance, which is straighter? by being dynamic, are you saying the older blue dot has more movement or flare than the newer ones?  my proshop guy has said he can't guarantee getting the older model anymore.

I replaced my original Columbia hard shelled Blue Dot with a Storm Ice Storm. It seems to be a lot like the Blue Dot - skids a lot on any wisp of oil, yet on real dry you can use it as an effective strike ball.

What weight do you use. If 16's, I have two used in boxes. One is rather beat up the other is fine. Message me and I can make you a deal to get one out of the closet.

Roll with 900 Global.

Just have your pro shop drill out the cracked area and plug/redrill it.  --  JohnP

I think, in my experience, the Blue Dot was not only a better spare ball than the White Dot, but it seemed to make a better dry lanes strike ball. It can't have been more "dynamic" since it also had a plain pancake core as the White Dot.

The original  Blue Dot has been out of production for 5 - 6 years now. Unless someone has saved one (see above), there's none available anywhere. The current Blue Dot has the same hardness as the White Dot but it has slightly less elasticity. It is nothing like the original Blue Dot.

If you really don't want a pancake cored plastic ball to hook at all, have your driller put the CG on your PAP and drill through it to remove the top/side weight. You might want to seek a low top weight ball.

I wish they still made the Yellow Dot Bleeder! Talk about a reactive ball of the day.

I loved that ball, too. It was a classic back in the day!
