Ball speed change is really paying dividends!
« on: March 20, 2006, 02:55:44 AM »
I've been having a lot more success since I finally realized the importance of ball speed and figured out what worked to get it down for me.  I made two changes to facilitate a lower ball speed.  I started my push away on the second step rather than my first (four step approach.)  I also concentrate on one thing in my delivery: soft hands.  It's really helped me get my ball speed down to match my rev rate, and it's giving me a MUCH more consistent look.  I've made the semifinals in the last two ABT events I entered, and just missed the cut to the finals this weekend.  I missed the cut by 14 pins, and it was due to not adjusting soon enough on the first pair I was on.  It turned out that that particular pair hadn't been bowled on as much (it was at the end of the house,) so it was a much tighter shot, and I didn't realize it soon enough and shot a pathetic 144.  I finished with a 194 and a 201 to just miss the cut, though!  A solid 10 pin in the ninth also hurt me a bit, but I really think it can only get better from here on out.  I can't wait for leagues tomorrow night!
