Like what should I get, how should I drill it, etc, etc...
I think everyone on this board should not answer until the requestor has entered a profile.

I think this is getting out of hand. A profile is a convenience, yes, but not an essential. Scott and now Bruce did not, do not, and, I suspect, will not even suggest that they fill one in nor with what information. We have done this bit (force them to fill in a profile) several times in the past; we get current people to fill it in and then it dies because more new people come on board.

Then people put in their high averages, their high games, some crap about which high schools rules, etc.

Hey, if someone wants help and they haven't provided enough information for you to help them, ask for it; even suggest they keep it permanent by putting it in their profile, but to be nasty about it by refusing to offer any help because they do not have that info in their profile, when more often not, they have no idea that "we" have decided that that is THE protocol, is inconsiderate, at best. Yes, I have been that way and I know it doesn't help. It makes life difficult, but if you're here to help, then help.

your point is well taken, and with the exeption of one other post here, I don't think anyone is ready to be "nasty" to someone who doesn't have a profile.

My list that is proposed is extremely generic and easy to fill out even for a beginner/novice. There's not any technical mumbo jumbo there...it's quite direct and simple.

Joe,

None at all. It is fine as given
What I am saying is that ballreviews does not force a newbie to put in a profile, nor does it suggest what may go into a profile.

I think all we can do is continue to suggest they put this type of info in their profile and continue to offer what help we can, asking for what more we think is needed.

Until the ballreviews registration process offers such a template at the time of registration, there's no more that we can do.

No profile, can't post. Hmmmm... sounds like a bad idea to me. If you don't want to reply to someone asking for advice, don't reply. Why do we have to force people to do this or that?

BTW, the script that checks for the existence of a profile would be very happy with this excellent information:

"xxx"

So much for forcing people to enter a profile.

Mumzie's policy is my policy. I don't care who posts, but I don't reply with advice to a poster without an informative profile. I'll usually PM them and ask for more information, suggesting that they put in a profile.

Please, let's not become bowling snobs on here...

I thought BR was to provide everyone an opportunity to discuss, learn, and enjoy the game of bowling. Granted, not as many beginners will be asking truly technical info, but at the same time we cannot expect them to know their ball speed, axis rotation, revs, and such since they may not know. And since they do not know, they ask questions.

I've been bowling for 16 years, and I can't tell you exactly what my speed or rev rate is because I have never been to a center that has the equipment to measure that info. Therefore, I have posted a generalization based on what I have seen others at the lanes doing - ie. avg. speed, above avg. revs. Will that mean the same to everyone since you all bowl in different locations with different caliber of bowlers? Probably not, but I'm sorry, it's the best I can do. If you need more info, just ask - and if they are a beginner, please explain why you ask and how the info you need is relevant to the situation.

We all keep griping about the supposed decline of bowlers, but by reaching out to the beginners and helping to educate them is one small way we can make a POSITIVE difference to the sport. If we belittle them and shun them because they simply don't know something, we will surely drive away potential teammates and BR users.

Not asking them to get technical....just make some kind of effort, that's all

And that is EXACTLY what we're looking for...it's better than nothing, right ??

Thanks for pointing out the deficiencies in my profile...
I had the semi-technical stuff in there at one time, and don't recall taking it out - but you're all right - it wasn't there. It is now. Not that it tells you all that much...

Jeff - comments like these are where I was getting the feeling that some would like to "shun" those who do not enter a profile. I think Mojo made an excellent point -

We are all on here enough to know who is a regular and when a poster is new. Politely directing the new blood is the way to go.

9- Totally valid points...but that is why I suggested my profile template. Then it's easy for people to do !

I disagree with Mojo's statement...he could have guessed like you said in your post before, ...remember, something is always better than nothing. And, if the poster needs additional help filling out the template....ask us ! We can do that I'm sure......

Let's not make it MANDATORY, but HIGHLY recommended then......

It really does not matter how NEW one is to bowling, they can check out the profiles of those who have one, and use as a guide, filling in what they know. Having to ask for the info takes more time for the response, when if as much as possible is already there, the answer can be given expeditiously and accurate. Also, if they are new and check out sample profiles, they will know what to go ask their proshop guy, so they can fill in the blanks. A person that is THAT new, needs to be asking advice from someone that can see them because our advice will be shots in the dark. Some people that do not enter profiles are either just lazy or don't want people to know ANYTHING about them. At a minimum, anyone can get their span and basic info (i.e. weight of equipment, physical stats if new and asking for equipment suggestions, etc..).
