Tornado misses our bowling center by 1/10 mile...
« on: February 18, 2008, 03:25:16 PM »
If anyone saw the stories Sunday/Monday about the Alabama tornadoes, the big one missed our bowling center by about 1/10 mile and my house by about 1/4 of a mile.

Here's an example of why they tell you to get out of your car during a storm (Note pic on the far right):

Here's one of the stories I wrote about it (this is basically an update list for local people, which is why it's in the format it's in):

And here's an early photo gallery:

The bowling center got power back tonight (Monday, Feb. 18). My first league since the storm is tomorrow, Tuesday. We don't know if we're bowling yet or not. We still haven't heard from a few key people on our league whose home was in the damage path.

Overall, we were very blessed as a city to make it through this. We have around 50,000 people, the tornado hit 200+ homes, and we have no deaths and only two serious injuries.

When did you move out of TN? I thought you were talking about the Smyrna bowling center at first.

My grandparents live in Castillian Springs in Tn and barely missed one of the tornados and my brothers g/f who lives out in Fairview had alot of wind damage thanks to a tornado, but their house barely got missed.

Im of course in ND right now so I havent been home to see anything, but from what Ive read and some of the photos Ive seen its was pretty rediculous.

I moved November 2006. I miss Smyrna but also like my new home and bowling center.

Damage estimates went up today: About 850 homes damaged, 150 of them "major" or "destroyed." I got my first look at the neighborhood behind the bowling center just about an hour ago. Damage was less than a block away.
