Does this ever happen to you?
« on: January 08, 2013, 12:18:54 PM »
You look in your closet, and say to yourself "Man, I am a ball HORDER!"

I just realized that I have almost as many NIB balls (7) as I do drilled pieces (11, and 2 of them are taken out of the rotation).

An intervention may be needed.

How does your ratio of NIB to drilled stack up?

Wow. IF you guys are married i need wives like yours.  lol I have 9 or 10 balls all drilled and my wife complains I have too many. I mainly use my Mission domination aka 250k(mine actually says domination) and my new storm iq tour pearl. I have been scoring so well with those hard to bring the others, but every now and then bring some of the other balls.

Bet you she has more shoes than you have bowling balls and I'd bet they cost more per pair!

Closet? CLOSET??? Man, ID you are a lightweight! LOL I have a bedroom with nothing but bowling balls. Several racks to hold them so I can actually walk into the room.

NIB ratio to drilled?? Over 100 NIB and maybe 20 drilled(some bought used but I have never thrown). I have 8 that I actually use including my spare ball.

Na, I don't got no problem.  :o ;D

Neither do I. An upstairs room, even the living room, 14'x 24', is not large enough. I put mine in the basement in 3 separate sections. Built my shelves of 2x6s and 24"x48" sheets of compressed board for shelving so each shelf holds balls, 3 deep x 6 across in their original boxes. Separate sections are for 14 lb. balls (for when the hip problem shows up), 15 lb. balls (normal use) and 16 lb. balls (when I'm feeling strong). Each section has NIB and drilled balls. Stopped counting a few years back at 90 ...

I thought I was bad but you guys put me to shame, I feel better already. 8)

I have 8 sitting on the rack drilled,

4 in my bag, and 1 on the way, just ordered my Dirty Look yesterday.  ;D

Just sold my Frantic 2 weeks ago.

In the last couple of years I have given 6 balls away.

Well okay then! LOL

If this question was brought me back when I was 22 I would have said I have 10 NIB and 25 drilled. I used to bowl 5 nights a week plus practice 1 night. I had 5 4 ball bags. Each bag had a tag for which night it was setup for.

As of right now I have 10 total. 4 I use weekly, 2 not in the rotation and will be donated to the local youth league, 2 others retired and 1 after I'm sure the 1 newly retired ball is officially replaced will also be donated to the youth league. My wife has 3 of her own, she bowled for about 3 years then stepped away from it this year, she might not return back to it but we still have at least 1 ball and shoes in case that changes.

I can't imagine walking into a room full of NIB and drilled balls that exceeds 100 balls. Even the best stocked pro shop can't compete with that!

Methinks you need to rethink what you consider a "well stocked" pro shop.  :P

Toche! I come from a pro shop that had only what you saw on the shelf available right then and there, if you wanted something else you had to wait a few days before it could be ready. This shop kept maybe the hot sellers in stock at most. If a ball was really selling like the Original release Ebonite The ONE he kept 3-4 in stock at all times but if you wanted a mid level priced ball like the Brunswick BVP series he had to order it. Could be part of the reason why he went out of business. Everything happens for a reason, now I'm at a pro shop that so far feels like a pro shop not just a hang out place.

I used to play the dodge the wife game, but having the incoming package held at the UPS Store or Fedex location lets me sneak the ball into my collection and the wife is none the wiser.

My local shop doesn't overstock because the next "NEW" balls will be out in a month. So they stock the walls with the new stuff from 4-5 brands sell 2-3 and sure enough a new model ball is on the wall. The only time a ball makes 6 months is over summer.  I think 2010 was the last time I heard my local shop say reordering a ball.

I feel much better about myself after reading this post.  I was starting to think that the producers of "Hoarders:  Buried Alive" were going to contact me at any given moment...but now...not so much.  I have 15 drilled, with 3 more on the way, and 1 NIB.  I am considering buying a couple more NIB to stow away.  I really need to auction a few more off on Ebay just to make room for the new ones...that way maybe the wife won't notice.  ;D

I have 0 nib -- when I buy it  I drill it --- if I really like it I get a second one and put a different layout on it. I do have 9 older single drill balls I would like to sell.
