Title: Which line should I play?
Post by: Sn on November 13, 2005, 12:16:37 AM
I currently have two kinds of releases for myself and they produce very different ball reactions.

I used to turn my wrist more and get my hand to the side of the ball. This produces quite a lot of axis tilt (around 45 degrees I guess) but I like the ball reaction more, which is a smooth arc into the pocket. In drier conditions I may even hook the whole lane.

Another release eliminates the wrist turning and produces little axis tilt. The ball has much forward roll and exhibits a skid/snap reaction. Due to the small axis of rotation in this release I have to stand far right and play down-and-in.

I am currently more confident with the first type of release because I am more familiar with the ball reaction. But I'm afraid this won't do my good in houses with more carrydown or heavier oil. And I would like to know which release would bring me more consistency on the long run.

My ball is a 14lb Dyno-Thane Element Carbide. (Forgot the layout on it)

Thanks for all of your comments!

if the lanes are playing tight I like to stay more behind the ball for earlier roll.if the backends are moving I like to come up on the side of the ball a little and if they are dry I'll come up more around the side for more spin, skid in the fronts.ofcourse you can fine tune wrist/finger positions for even more slightly reactions.add the fact that you can change to different balls, surfaces, drillings and the possibilities are almost endless.
