Ethical Question
« on: April 20, 2006, 01:12:58 PM »
I shot 666 tonight and realized I needed 667 for a 202 average.  I currently book 192 and I have 2 tourneys coming up this Saturday and a month from now.  If I don't bowl and keep this average is it ethical (we have subs on our team)?  Also we need 1 game to lock 2nd place!  Is this thick or what?  Anyway because of the 10 pin rule is this unethical?  I will go with the consensus.  Thanks

IMO If you love to Bowl why sit out. Let the things that are suppose to happen Happen. If you are ment to be a 202 avg you will be, have some pride in what you do.A great guru of the game told me"This Ball this frame as good as you can" if that means 190 avg or 230 avg it does not matter. If you sit out for the possibility of financial gain in a handicap event it is the same as Sandbagging. If you bowl and do your best and you don't get there then you know in your own heart you are where your suppose to be. I say Bowl and get there if you can. I Challenge you to do it!!!!

OK. I was out of bowling for years & only bowled in a local (city) tournament. This 10 pin rule that's referred to, do I understand that if your current year's average is 10 pins or more over last years book average, you have to use this year's average? I am about to sign up for a tournament. Last year's book average was 193. High average this year is at 209. Am I to assume that I must use the 209 average? Thank you for any responses on this.

RHWestar,

It all depends on the rules of the tournament.  So for any tournaments get a copy of the rules FIRST.  If there is no 10 pin rule, you may still be rerated at the whim of the tournament committee at anytime for any reason.  Or you may not be rerated, depending on it the tournament committee doesn't think your improvement is significant enough to demand it.  Unless of course you cash then someone might complain thus bringing the rerated on.  Best advise...read the rules carefully.  Comply to the rules.  Then keep your mouth shut about averages and improvements etc.......

Thanks Erin. I see where the rules does have the "10 pin rule applies" on it. Guess I'm using this year's average.  Ricky
