Title: Who does use grips?
Post by: strikestriketapped on December 04, 2006, 12:21:39 PM
We had a topic on why some people don't use grips. Who here does? I used powerlifts.

I use turbo's, but I recently bought a ball from xxjaredxx on here and it has no inserts in it.... and they fit almost perfectly, a tad of dremel work and I am going to throw this for a while and see how it goes, I have tried to switch before but was never comfy.

I have thrown three games with this ball and it feels good, but had a little issue with my first knuckle on my middle finger hence the dremel work, have not had a chance to throw it since but it feels better.

Hopefully I can get this worked out and I don't have to buy inserts any more, then I can afford to buy more balls!

i've used vise grips for over 10 years now and wouldn't dream of changing. best feel, best comfort, many colors. the first company to offer half sizes if you're in between sizes like me.

I do.  I think they're Vise inserts, but really, whatever my driller puts in them.

The shop here is only stocking the turbo quads in the ice, but I actually prefer vise grips due to the availability of the size choices. It is a small shop and has a limited inventory and the turbo quads give them more flexibility options on a limited inventory system.

I end up having to work out the hole and stretch the insert to get the fit I like ( with the turbo quads), but the vise grips come sized down to the 64th inch which makes them available to me that fit without all the "custom" fitting I do without them.

Juggernaut your pro shop is NOT carrying all the sizes of the quads then as I have the 49/64th and 51/64th Ice quads.. readily available to me anywhere I seem to try and buy them.... ebay, proshop (if they carry turbos) or straight from the distributor....... (thru my local moose lodge's bowling alley.. btw usually the cheapest too)

I use Vise grips, but turn them over and put the power side down. I dont like tight fingers.

I like the PINK ones

I use Vise Grips - but tehy are the only ones availabel around here, except for Vacu grips. I like the feel and softness of them - and the extra revs

Basically, the idea of having grips is to increase friction between finger and ball. A rubber grip insert will add 10-20% of leverage (a number I overheard).
Another issue is the player's ability to bend the finger joint. SOme players will either need a sharp pitch to hold the ball at all, or have power lift inserts installed that will make life much easier.

A fellow bowler of mine recently went totally off of inserts - he uses to tape the holes on the front and back side, and he assumed that the inserts would not be necessary anymore at all - and for him and his high rev style, this decision was right.

The new Turbo Quad "Classic" Ice....lift side

Previously used both Turbo Quads and Turbo Power Ovals

Have tried Vise......lift side, but found them too sticky at times.

I'm a vise oval man myself, but my only quandry is that even grips marked the same size, seem to be different.  I know that initial hole size is a big factor, but I have all different sizes in my fingers.  The thing I love most about them is the 1/2 sizes.

Trauma,

You should try Vise Ovals in the Vacu Style.  That is what I use, always Black, and you should too.  Did that sound like a commercial?  Sweet!  I think Vacu Grips would help you with the grips feeling different sizes.

Used PowerGrips for years, but thanks to the new PBA rules had to change. Now switching over to Turbo Ice. So far I like them, but the surface on the inside of the lift is a little different.

I use grips, Vise I think, though I am in the process of switching to the Vacu Grips.  I tried them for the first time this summer and find them more comfortable, especially when the fingers swell.

Turbo Quad Ices....oval side with the little textured bumps.  These are by far thebest feeling grips to me and are "invisible" in the ball.
